Well I accepted a conditional job offer with SFS out of Morristown Tennessee today. Trying to get moved and into a new job by the end of the month so I don't have to wait so long for our health insurance to kick in. Starts after 30 days. Other companies I have contacted were 60-90 days. Blue Cross and Blue Shield plan.
$2500 sign on bonus. New wheels and tires on my Suburban! Yay me!!
Going down there, I live in Kingsport TN, on Friday for my Pee Test and agility test. The agility test is to see if I can open and close trailer doors, climb into a truck using the 3 point system and roll up and down a set of trailer dollies. Been there, done this. Then back home.
The movers show up at our new place on Monday morning with all of our belongings and that circus starts.
I proceed to bail out on my Dear Wife Wednesday afternoon and go back down to a hotel in Morristown to get ready for orientation on Thursday and Friday and then off on my first load on the weekend.
They are a small company of about 45 trucks. All Penske Volvo Leases. 780's I would imagine. They have a mix of autos and manuals. Haven't seen the inside of one yet, will on Friday, and I was told they have fridges and inverters. Company paid XM and tv mounts. Unknown if they are the ones with the table set up or a normal bunk. Will report back on Friday. 70 mph on the pedal, and 72 on cruise.
Starts at .45 cpm and up from there. Paid holidays and vacation. Home on weekends. Mostly mid west Tennessee Regional but have some loads farther West if you don't mind being out longer than five days.
Everything I could find on them tells me they are a good company. We shall see.

I used to work for them in 2016. Owners name is Terry and I am very good friends with Kelsey his daughter. Reason I left was due to family reasons in 2016 but, Southern Freight Services uses a lot of brokers like Arrive Logistics, C.H. Robinson, Echo, and they have customers like Eastman in Kingsport, and they have local customers in Morristown. Their CEO now is named Pat who used to be the Hiring Manager for Fraley and Schilling.
You will get good miles, good pay, and you will be treated fairly. It is a family owned business and they give you that family atmosphere. You will be home every weekend on the dot and they will never hang you out over the weekend EVER. Very good company!!Speed_Drums and Bumper Thank this. -
Update: Went over there for some pre-employment stuff. Filled out some paper work, took a road test and then went for the usual pee test and a physical agility test at a Physical Therapy Office. Truck was a 2016 Volvo 670 with a honest to goodness 10 speed manual transmission! Hadn't driven one in over 2 years but by the end of the short drive I had it down again. Don't know yet if I will get one of these with the 10 speed but it would not be a bad thing.
Going back next Thursday to finish it off and move into whatever truck I am assigned to. Get my first load info and head out on Sunday.
I think I am the only one coming on next week so it wont take long.Speed_Drums Thanks this. -
Forgot to mention that I hadn't driven a big truck since May. It was nice to see above the traffic again....

Finishing up orientation today. There are three of us coming on. And the owner walked in and told us that effective Monday we get a five cent a mile raise. So I’ll be making 50 cent a mile to start. No complaints.
Speed_Drums Thanks this. -
Sounds like a good start. Good luck to you.Bumper Thanks this.

It’s taking some adjusting, but I am still here. I’m in Cleveland Ohio area tonight so probably not going to be home tomorrow. We shall see.
-
Hang in there. Did they get you a load home today?
-
If getting into the yard at midnight is home, then yes. I’ll stay there tonight and drive home in the morning. I did that last Friday too.

Well things sadly didn’t work out here and I am giving my notice today. I had high hopes but they didn’t pan out.
