If I spend 3+ hours in sleeper and continue to drive the rest of my 11 or 14 would that mean I only need a 7 hour break for a fresh 14 hour clock?

The only time I've used the split reset so far was driving 10 miles to a delivery, over an 8 hour unload so I got 8 hours in the sleeper and noticed I got most my hours back and drove it out without doing any additional 2 hour break.

No you. Would not get a fresh 14 and 11... You would get back what ever time you used before you too the 3+ hour break.

Sorry still kind of confused here, does the first part of the split reset pause the clock, and the second adds back the hours that were used?

Off topic but kind of related to OP's post, if you do the 7 and 3 split or the 8 and 2 split - Do you have to do a pre trip and a post trip if you do the longer split first?

What if the longer split became an unexpected longer split, where you didn't know beforehand that you were going to be waiting 7 hours at the warehouse? Would you just do a pre trip when the first 7 (or 8) hour split ended?

Not a professional yet but it’s never bad to do another pre and post trip .

I would think you would get back a full clock minus the time you used between the three hour and seven hour sleeper break just like with a 2/8 split.

Well, technically a pre and post inspection isn't required. What is required is the driver be satisfied with everything working properly.
So it's mostly up to what you feel is satisfactory plus any company policy in effect.

Correct... Which is the same as getting back what you used previous to the first break.
