Greetings and salutations. Question on a spread axle flatbed with a drop down front axle. Should I drop this axle when empty? Obvious increased turning radius when it's up. Have an 800 mile empty and wondering if it will damage tires if I keep the axle down. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Leaving it up empty will reduce wear on those tires and reduce rolling resistance for better mileage.

Idk about the trailers but for some tri axles you shouldn’t turn with your tag axle/lift axle down

Can someone tell me..should you lift on sharp turns with a quad axle (nonsteerable lifts) trailer? And do you lower while rolling or do you have to find a place to pull over to lower?

Depends on permits and towns and how heavy you are. If it's a real sharp turn it's good to do, but certain areas do not allow it. If you're going over 5-10 mph after the corner you probably didn't need to raise them. If you're going slower then drop them while you slowly accelerate.

I'm no expert, but these are things that make sense to me.

    When empty, keep it raised.

Espressolane has it right, if your rig has a "Tag" axle for weight purposes, raise it and keep it raised when empty. It's only to be used when loaded.

This is not to be confused with trailers equipped with a dump valve. Those like the ones we had emptied the airbags on the aft rear axle of a spread axle so that the tires can "Skip" or float around when you are turning in place as you would be in docking for example. Those tires would still be in some sort of touch with the pavement. The front axle of the spread in this instance would be bearing the entire weight and pivot point in that situation temporarily.
