I replaced my big serpentine belt last week because it was in bad shape and had started to squeak. Now the new belt is squeaking, although nothing like the old one. Is there something that can be done or applied to the belt to stop this?

spray on some belt dressing...(most auto parts stores carry it)
Are you SURE its the belt thats squealing and not a Bad A/C compressor or Alternator? Fan clutches squeal too when going bad -
They do make a belt dressing but make sure you don't have a tentioner pulley going or something else.

I can't find belt dressing to save my life, seems everywhere I go they don't carry it, and they look at me like I'm on crack for even asking about it. I'm sure its the belt, if I spray WD40 on it it stops until it wears it off, then it gets really loud for awhile.

I would say you have something else going on..... I just had a tensioner let go. Worth checking.
P.S. Have a small can of crc belt dressing in garage( never used it). lol

A bar of Ivory soap, shade tree belt dressing, be careful applying it.
Oscar the KW and KW Cajun Thank this. -
I'm going to try that, I thought that I had heard of that before but wasn't sure.

use orange based spray cleaner, the dilimonene in it makes rubber sticky, we used to use it in a 60 per cent solution for softening racing tires and providing grip til the tires got hot
Oscar the KW Thanks this. -
I checked the two idler pulleys and the belt tensioner over when I removed the old belt, they all spin freely and there is zero play in any direction.

I'll give that a try if the soap doesn't last.
