Someone teach us newbies the advantages and disadvantages of the stacks...

some trucks have 1 or 2...some have none!
Some are curved and some are straight up!

is this all cosmetic? Or is there a benefit of one over another.

I never understood the mentality behind the weed burner (underneath) exhaust. Seems to me you wouldn't want that unless you had an APU, because of the exhaust blowing out right under the sleeper.

It's one of them latest things for fuel economy. Less exhaust restriction.

Also less money spent building the exhaust. Cuz the dpf is a hefty added expense alone.

Why not 6, one for each cylinder. Unless you have a cummins, then you don't need that much exhaust flow, a single 1.5" pipe will be plenty.:)

Curved vs straight- some are for looks but with a curve or better known as turn out is when sitting not running in the rain water doesn't get in. When water gets in the exhaust will rust out faster and when you start it after sitting in rain it blows black soot water all over your truck.

Back before all the large cars came standard with duels. 2 stacks usually meant you had a v8 diesel. Under chassis Grass burners were for the gas burners.
Duels have been optional on the Petes since sometime in the 60’s. The ‘67 in my avatar had a 335 cummins and was special ordered from Fort Worth Peterbilt with them with muffler delete from factory.
