You must be fairly young Jersey Mike. When you get my age you will find out there are two kinds of old people, those that have pensions and those that don't. Those that got it have a much better life. When I was in my 20's I thought that the Pension was unimportant, but trust me unless you got another source of income you will wish you had the Pension when you get old. Well best of luck to you, I do understand wanting to get out on the road and drive, but home by 2:00.... that's also nice!
Big Don Thanks this. -
I hope that you are still feeling that way when you are in your late 60's and early 70's.
Aw quite bellyachin'! Ya ain't gonna shrink from gettin' a bit of rain. Are ya?![[IMG]](proxy.php?image=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thetruckersreport.com%2Ftruckingindustryforum%2Fimages%2Fsmilies%2Froundies%2Fbiggrin_25525.gif&hash=a855f3265226f4d6ec9d83ba40a0c104)
From what I see, you are right on with this. Sure, you might get lucky and win the lottery, or a rich relative might die and leave everything to you. But probably not.
Now I will admit that I worked at a job that I loved for most of my LE career. Except for the last few years when the politics became very difficult to live with. One thing I don't recommend is staying in a job that you hate, for ANY reason. Life is way too short to spend almost a third of it doing something you hate.
Another thing to remember about retirement planning. "Man Plans, GOD LAUGHS!" It is an old Jewish saying, (I think,) that is very true. However, I think you still need to do some basic planning for your future. -
i am for sure not gonna melt away in the rain from being too sweet
just a typical driver cant wait to get a load or get rid of a load
be easier if dispatch didnt think i could deliver even though place is closed -
Just "kick it off into their dock area somewhere. . ."

The best part of a gov't job is the medical care. I never had to pay a dime when I worked for our county.
Worked 7-3 MF and had every holiday off with pay, sick days paid, personal leave, retirement.....
You might not make as much with a gov't job, but you'll have a more stable better life with one.
Then again like a dummy I went back OTR because I was itching.
The only advice I can give is live for the future and not for today. You'll thank yourself when you get older. Then you can live for today because it might be your last, lol. -
The county I retired from certainly was not that way. Every year, we would lose a little of our medical benefits. There was a certain CFO there, that during is several year stint, they would switch medical insurance at least twice during the year to take advantage of "new customer savings."
It was a real nightmare to keep up with, because medical billing is so screwed up anyway. -
i kinda hope obama wins again. lahood said he'd quit if that happened,.

I'm right there with you...kind of. I run local right now, but it's not all peaches and cream. I run night shift, and over the same highway 6 times per night. Is it easy? Yes. Is it boring? A bigger yes! That, plus the fact that even though I'm local, I still don't see my wife or family because they're sleeping when I'm working, and vice versa, and you get the idea. I'm frustrated. So much so that I'm in the process of going back out on the road, but probably in a regional position so I can still be home weekends with the family, but at least do and see different things and perhaps sleep at night once in awhile.

I had better venues.and.jpeg income when I left my state job.
Don't feel got to stay to have a future.
