Hello all, I wanted to get advice from the exp truckers here. Do you guys ever drop your trailer to drive the bobtail somewhere? Say to a gym nearby? Or is that too risky to do due to trailer and cargo theft. Not trying to sound stupid just wondering. Thank you.

if your dropping your trailer too bob tail to the movies, gym, etc. trucking may not be for you. this isn't a big social job. drive, sleep and repeat.
tscottme and Steel Dragon Thank this. -
To add to that, if there's any value you'll want a decent disc detainer kingpin lock because the stuff they sell in truck stops are gone in a few seconds of wiggling something in the keyway.
King Pin Locks -
I take only one step: don't do it. Better safe (and employed) than sorry ( and broke).

Thank you, I was asking because I have seen drivers do it. Thanks for clarifying.

Your empty trailer could be scrap in an hour, depending where you drop it.
I never leave my truck unattended for more than an hour, even in a truck stop.
Good luck. Locks only keep the casual thief away, the professional crook will steal your lock too.Just passing by Thanks this. -
Only drop it if you get approval from your company. I've only done it twice and it was to get food both times.
First time was in a gated lot with a guard at the front (let him know where I was going) and the other one was to go a half mile to McDonald's, got it to go and right back to the trailer.
But always get approval first -
Now I know why some travel with their dogs.

I just bring it with. I’ll go to target in my truck. I don’t really care, I’ve also been known to pull into the grocery store too. Just take a row in back that isn’t going to piss anyone off.
joehi2470 Thanks this.
