Stevens is ok to get the career started. Good equipment is what the drivers on here report.
I don't think you would go wrong by starting with Stevens Transport.Last edited: Apr 4, 2023

First of all....CONGRATULATIONS....on finishing up CDL school.
2nd....be sure to finish up getting that HAZMAT endorsement.
Your situation is similar to mine, when I first started out.
I had to basically take what I could get. For me--that was (at the time) Schneider.
You may well have to take the offer from Stevens, for 2 basic reasons:
- You live so incredibly far south; few carriers recruit from there, anyway.
- The general freight market is tightening up, so carriers are getting more skittish about who they hire. In the reefer world--that may, or may not--affect you. It just depends.
- How long will I be out on the road with a trainer? You want that to be AT LEAST 3 WEEKS; & more is better--but don't tell the recruiter that--just let them answer the question.
- What lanes/areas will I be running with said trainer? If memory serves me correctly--Stevens won't release you from training until/unless you have done some mountain driving (out west). This is very good--and MUCH BETTER than I got from Schneider. You want to verify this...
- If you haven't already--ask about CDL tuition reimbursement--over what time period is that paid out?
Services - Leonards (leonardsexpress.com)
If you haven't already tried them....you might check them out, as well...especially if you would rather start out doing dry van.

I'd go with a tanker or reefer outfit.gekko1323 Thanks this. -
As in Post #6, take a look at Leonards Express. Not sure they hire that far south in Florida, but call and ask.
One driver in Winterhaven was hired there. CDL school tuition reimbursement.
Home - Leonards

Leonard’s is tightening up hiring as well. Or so I’ve heard. I work here.

If the other suggestions above somehow don't pan out....you could try this one.....
Swift has a terminal in Ocala, FL....and has an opening for a dry van driver; they routinely hire and train new CDL holders:
Swift Transportation -- OTR 48-states -- no exp req'd
The BIG advantage with this one--Swift has the freight volumes that will likely power you thru an upcoming freight slump. Don't worry about the mentioned "backing skills" requirement--your training with Swift will take care of that.
Good luck, Driver....
