    I got a question fo ryou guys. I'm looking to start out, but I have a 2yr careless driving and Unsafe Operation ticket on my MVR. So you KNOW NOBODY is hiring me. I checked out some trucks (MM we talked on the Arrow thread about this) and some ins. companies. I've been told I can get a truck, but I can't get it insured for a reasonable price until June 2010 when the violations are 3yrs old. So I've been to an SBA office and i'm goin to a seminar this saturday.

    They - and another guy I know looking to get a str8 truck - tell me the most cost-effective way to get started is to lease a tractor from Ryder or Penske. Penske says $145/day, 725/wk, 0.15cpm!! And I have to get blanket ins. along with their own. Ryder says roughly $99.95/day, 500/wk, 0.10cpm. BUT...they have to check financials for 2yrs: Bank statements, pay stubs and W-2's. AND I have to get my own ins...which is WAY TOO EXPENSIVE RIGHT NOW!!! They said I may not get approved for T/T long term leasing (6mos-1yr) but I could get a box trk for $350/wk, 0.12cpm, and NO FINANCIAL CHECK!!

    I won't have start-up money till tax season. But I may just do str8 truck runs if I can find someone to give me good work and IF I can do it part-time till June. So...I'm gonna start looking myself, but does anybody know any brokers or shippers that'll load a str8 truck and/or T/T outa Jersey for short runs? I nd one ANYWAY if I go the Independent O/O route. Any suggestions?

    I would urge you not to do that..Part time you will not be makin a whole lot after $350+ a week..Just dosnt sound very cost affective..If that is your only option for driving,I would look at getting into a different industry for a bit and let your mvr get clean..

    :biggrin_25520: Goodmorning, mayby just a dum thought i had, but mayby you can get a job at a local brokarage freight handel place were you load trls at night, that way when you do get too drive , you can tell em how you want your trl loaded too be safe, plus on the footnote you can shag trls all day, then after three years of cleanup on your part , they may let you do short runs, and everyday gets a little futher away, just a dum idea i had , Everett. :biggrin_2556:
