Hi, I've been training with Werner for about a month now and I'm just about through with their training. I'm already looking to quit because of a few reasons, some bad experiences, my trainer is an #######, and The otr lifestyle just isn't for me.

but I've worked hard to get my cdl, but I literally have no experience, unless you can count the month I've been with my trainer.

I'm from southern West Virginia, below charleston. Ultimately I would like to find something local that could get me home nightly, but most places that can do that require a few years experience, or work hauling coal if I can get lucky enough.

i have my tanker, passenger and school bus endorsements, anyone care to share some advice? I'm Wanting to make a career with my cdl, cos I'm just coming out of a dead end job, but I dont believe I'm cut out to do OTR work.

Get a new trainer...get out on your own...get some experience. What made you think you would like OTR when you initially signed up?

I wasn't sure if I would when I first signed on, I took what was first offered to me because I was desperate for work. I'm starting to regret my decision to go with Werner, like I should have tried my luck with something local first.

but that's also part of the problem I'm having with Werner too, I did put in a request for a new trainer a few weeks ago but they've practically ignored it, along with issues with our rig.

Did you follow up on the request professionally? Sometimes you gotta be persistent....nicely.

Yeah, me and my trainer both did, but I also have other gripes too. We've been fighting defroster issues since I got in the truck, not a big deal in worm or even mild conditions. But the request for repair has been made several times by my trainer, but we can't even get near a terminal or any place to fix the issue

Howard Transportation is a private fleet for Howard Industries.
They have 3 terminals and one is in Southern West Virginia. Sometimes those private fleets are great to work for.

    I'll look into that too.

but I do think it's a load of bs that I can drive through Chicago, New York, Cleveland, San Fransisco and other big cities like that for Werner, with no experience, yet I cant drive for a local company in areas I'm familiar with without a decade of experience. Heh.

I had 3 trainers with Werner. I am still not finished yet. 2 of them were great, but 1 one of them was bad at everything, didnt even know how to use qualcomm. Well, i told him he was bad at His job, so he kicked me out of his truck. On the NexT day i got a new trainer. My point is dont put up with their ####. Do whats right for you.

If you want to run chemical tanker, Qc has a terminal in Institute and Dana in Nitro. Both will ask for experience but It depends on how hard up they are right now for drivers. At any rate, it's good money and a lot of local work even if you do have to wait til you get some experience.

I just got in contact with a contract company who's willing to give me a shot driving tractor trailer for the mines near me. I'm Familiar with how the mine runs things because I used to work security there a couple years back.
