He's right. My last employer ran super singles and I saw a couple other trucks in our fleet that were way under inflated and wore just like that. I seem to recall they were all around 80 psi.

The only good thing about them is that they're lighter. They suck in snow and ice, they suck chaining up, and they suck when you have a blow out because they take the wheel out with them. When the retreads blow they leave a 100 pound gator in the road.

    Just wow.
    80 psi is considered flat.

Pretty much. I've seen trucks taken out of service with more psi than that.

They wear more evenly with low pressure, at a cost to fuel mileage. I ran lower pressure with those Michelin Xone like in the OP and never had that issue. it depends on how much weight you need to carry.

Why do you say that? According to CSA, it’s considered flat when it’s 50% of max pressure of sidewall rating. Are those supposed to be 160? I don’t have a compressor that runs that high.

They are super singles. I've never seen super singles with more than about 150k miles that didn't at least start to show some form of unusual and abnormal wear. And once it starts to show, it's a fast trip to unusable state.

These pictured in the post I feel sure are almost new recaps ... as if virgin super singles weren't enough of a worry.

    NavigatorWife and Dave_in_AZ Thank this.

I deal with fleets that get 300k out of Michelin super singles. They do wear faster on the edges but typically the inside shoulder. But the ones in the pic were over inflated to get both shoulders to wear that much faster.

    NavigatorWife and Dave_in_AZ Thank this.

I'll bet a weeks pay those are recaps (poor recap process at that), hence the odd look on the edges
