I'll never understand why companies allow advances for anything other than expenses directly related to operating the truck such as scales and tolls. Seems odd to me that drivers expect the company to front them money for food and smokes but I may just be out of touch with reality.

$15 arizona permits and $60 new mexico trip permits.
What exactly is this $15 Arizona permit? -
It's a good thing my company doesn't give advances because I would have to work for nothing until August 19,2079.

I only take advances when I'm going where I'm going to be paying cash tolls.

The cash advance thing started many years ago. Back in the good old days before fuel cards, ez pass etc, it was pretty common for a driver to leave the terminal with an envelope full of money. He was supposed to use it for fuel , tolls, repairs and such. If he ran out of money before he came home the company sent him more money via western union or something similar. When getting back driver turned in all the receipts. The difference between how much money he took and how many receipts he turned in was considered a personal advance. This was also before ATM, debit or credit cards where as common. Somehow the advance thing stuck around, and many drivers get upset if they can't take an advance. Like it is a right or something. Many companies are really starting to frown on it. Unless they changed it, at TMC, you could only get 25 twice a week. And you where really only supposed to use that for allowable truck expenses.

What ever happened to personal responsibility and managing your own money??

arizona sells oversized permits at the scales. $15 for a trip permit. or $30 for a 30 day permit. but you have to be the exact same length. they don't sell UP TO lengths or widths on an annual basis.

I can see someone who's just started needing a personal advance.
If it's something you need regularly you're living beyond your means.
I can see why crappy companies would be happy to give advances. I'm sure it's harder to just up and quit a job if you're that broke. -
I ain't got no time fo' dat!Cranky Yankee Thanks this. -
LOL. Too funny. Guess he had a bad dream about being buried under advance receipts. Or felt the need for a "insert random advice" thread.
Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get you! -
ComChek Charlie.that's what we called a driver that i worked w/back in the early 90's.he lived entirely on advances.the company knew it and he had been there so long that it apparently wasn't a problem.we shortened his name up to ComChek.
you kind of had to be there i reckon-
