I don't generally book tarped loads but now I'm bidding on a semi regular deal. Thinking about how to pay the drivers to tarp. I'm thinking about basing on the size of the piece.
I did a piece last night that was 13' x 8' x 10' and it took me an hour to tarp it. Driver pay might go like this: (10 + 10 + 8)*13 = 364 sq ft x $.10 = $36.40 to tarp + $36.40 to un tarp.
What do you think?
tarp pay

the driver don't get paid by square footage. the drive gets paid for rolling out the tarp. PERIOD. the load may be diffderent sizes. but the tarp ISNT.
do you pay you driver by how many staps he uses???? or how heavy or big the load is??? -
The driver can get paid however the owner wants to pay them as long as it is permissible by law.rank, keepitsimple, Logan76 and 1 other person Thank this.

I have 7 tarps on the truck. Had 4 stolen. I charge by the tarp. $200 per tarp. That covers the wear on my tarps and my time to be ragging loads.
terrylamar, rank and Foxcover Thank this. -
thats what i thought on reading snowys post. if op is the owner, no one can tell em it CANT work like that.
i can tell you that no matter how you look at it the math is wrong. if you are looking at square footage based on length and width it would be either 13*8, 13*10, or 10*8. if you are including height it would be cubed feet and would be 13*10*8=1040 cubed feet.rank Thanks this. -
Are you going to pay him to untarp and roll it up and secure it. Your explanation pays your driver for half a tarp job.rank Thanks this.

It sounds like you are trying to be fair, so that when your drivers have to tarp a large item they get paid more. Unfortunately, as you can see from some of the previous responses a lot of people really aren't very good at math and are suspicious of what they don't understand. Or rather than wrap their pinheads around the idea that they will get paid a lot of money for big tarp jobs, they will think they are getting shorted on the small ones.
You can see why most companies end up just paying a flat rate for tarp pay. -

Not sure what owning the tarps has to do with it, as the OP is talking about paying HIS drivers to tarp, inferring company drivers that do not pay for tarps etc.
There really is no way to make everyone/anyone happy when talking about tarping a load. I have done super easy small tarp jobs for @$70 and been happy with the 15 minutes of work for that $70. And I have done $500 tarp jobs that were a total nightmare, where I would have gladly given away the $500 to NOT have to tarp the thing!
Sounds like you are being fair to me, increasing the money when more tarp is needed. The main thing with tarping though is shape of the load, as well as how much padding etc. No way a square crate should pay the same as a weird and whacky machine that is the same size, but needs 3hrs of padding on it before tarping. See what I mean about making everyone happy?
Martinrank Thanks this.
