    Quite possibly so, ---
However, the more important fade issue would still remain, ....... that issue being brain fade. :happy6: :stop:

Would you believe me if I said no?
    Over 5,000 posts?
    Hmmmmmmm ----
Actually, if the other Big truck truckin' related website where I also post is included, the count would be closer to 14,000 in approximately eight years, --- which is an average of about 4.7 posts per day, hardly a break-neck pace.
Would you believe me if I told you that I multi-task using a laptop so I can read and reply to posts while I'm driving? :smt024 :Driver:

The only problem that I have with jake-brakes are the knuckle-head super trucker wannabees that run straight pipes and leave their J-brakes turned on in the truckstop. Morons.....

Most drivers who need to shift with the Jake on are idiots/showoffs.

Had a driver come over from Conway who thought it was cool. No wonder they gave him the boot. The only reason he lasted at the company was he was a butt-kisser to the bossman who didnt own the trucks. I'd have fired him if it were me.

Any driver that uses the Jake within city limits or even near one house when the terrain can be transversed safely with out the Jake is a ignorant and self-centered driver. And the driver that uses his Jake on flat ground at a stop sign and then thinks we are all stupid because he claims he is saving his brakes to save money should try coasting to the stop sign with the use of very little brake and save more money on fuel. I like the ones that tops a hill then give it fuel going down a small hill and then apply the Jake to slow down. Here's your sign.

    Ofcourse Im saving my brakes.

Ever wonder why you gotta replace brake shoes on a car or pickup with an auto trans more than with a vehicle with a stick?? its because you have to rely on the brakes to slow yer ### down.

Just incase yer not getting the analogy, the car with auto tranny would be the same as a big rig with only using the brakes to stop and slow down.

Anytime you touch that brake pedal, you're applying force and friction to those shoes and when that happens, you're causing wear. So, anytime you can use other means of slowing down, thats wear you save on the brakes. Just like how they say to never ride the clutch with your foot, even a little bit because that causes quicker wear on the clutch plate.

WTF?? Are you alright? Try turning a wrench for a day and see what is like dealing with abbsolute steering wheel holders. The abuse an engine takes when you apply the JAKE is tremendous. Oh Yeah! It sounds great! Step on the Treadlle valve (the brake peddle) and burn them up over the jake unless you you know how to use them,NO #####!!

i have seen lots of smoked brakes--a few burnt down trucks and trailers--but i dont think i have ever seen any damage to an engine from using the jake brake
i am kinda thinking there would be less wear using jakes than by just gearing down and not using jakes
