I'm sure this is a common knowledge but I've never operated one these before. The company truck I drive (2015 international) has a thermo king tripac evolution with some switches on the dash board (standby mode, on, normal etc). I'm trying figure out how to get the thing to turn on when I turn the truck off.. One of the other drivers said I should push the power button in the cab once and that should do it, but it's still not working so what gives?

    Dash , normal.
If you have the three dial controller in the sleeper the first dial does depress.
Once quickly will put on in standby ( red letters stby should be on.
Holding it down a little longer ( a few seconds) then release it will make it start up. ( Not immediately , less than a minute )
Or you can adjust the center dial( warmer/colder) that will also make it come on.
Third dial is fan speed , low, medium and night . as you turn this dial green lights around it light up showing the fan speed .... .... .... Each quarter turn.
Adjusting this dial will also make the unit come on.
After adjusting any of them and that panel isn't lit up and the little snowflake on the side of the first dial isn't blinking indicating that the unit is getting ready to start then you need to go outside and open the door on the apu.
You should I hope know how to do that , inside is a main on/ off switch check and make sure it's switched on.

By the on my dash I just have a toggle switch ..... Normal or Standby
Normal position allows auto on when truck ignition is turned off.
    Standby position shuts it down.

By the way even with both dash and main on off switch in the correct position you still have to fiddle with any one of the three dials for the unit to come on.
The main on off switch will most likely be a flat style toggle with a - on one side and a 0 on the other. 0 = on.

I think I have toggle switches on the dash set right. I pushed the power button down (bumped it) in the sleeper area but I'm thinking I need to push it for 1 second to get it to kick on when the trucks off automatically. From what I can tell it will do different things according to how long you push that button down.

Yes , on mine that first dial does several things including if you push in and hold for to long it powers off the control panel.

Question, The manual states that the thermostat for heat only is not in the control unit on the sleeper wall. with my temp knob turned all the way to the left (down) the cabin temp is supposed to be around 50 degrees i believe. my cabin goes well up to high 70's at the west setting. so the thermostat must be someplace where its cold. any ideas?

    thanks

The heater has a temperature sensor inside itself. The thermoking controller only tells it what you commanded. The rest the heater itself does. Try running the the fan on the apu like you have the ac on but when heat is on. It should help. Depending on how it is installed on your truck a return air duct for the heater may need to be added or reconnected. Heat rises but the heater is mounted in the floor
