if you are a flatbed/open deck kinda of guy - you will know it and you won't ever want to do anything else.

It should not be about "easier" and if it is then enjoy opening the doors at your appointment time.

Could I figure out how to run a trailer with doors - probably - but I would hate it. There is more to the job than just driving like a robot - 600-700 miles a day. Use your brain, developed your skills, solve problems and take pride in a job done well.

It is a little like rich people - they aren't like us and that is ok.

Thanks everyone for the great responses and advice. I was leaning towards flatbed from the start but thanks to all your responses and a few conversations with other drivers I know I definitely want to go flatbed. I always liked the idea of getting out and moving around once in a while and getting fresh air. The pay is just a bonus. Not to mention the experience will likely open many more doors for me in the future.

So I have been hearing lately that if you are over the age of 45 that it is difficult to get on with a flatbed company. Now no company would actually give your age as the reason for not hiring someone but I was just curious form some of you if age poses a problem in getting hired?

I think a mega would keep him busy. He will tarp the whole time. But he will not be as fat and have a different set of skills than a van in six months.

Flatbed will pay you in the end.
It's hard work, but well worth it.
Pulling a box is easy to learn if you choose to later.

Good info from all of the above.

OP. Sounds like you are making a good choice. Once you get a little experience under your belt a lot of doors will open for you. But do take the time to learn how to back. We don't do it often but when we do its a tight fit. LOL

I've never heard such a thing. Maybe 65? LOL.

We have more guys older then 45 then younger some of the 60 plus guuys can make me look bad and its because they do flatbed and stay physically fit. I don't recommend flatbed for fat people you'll just get hurt.

Thanks. .. I would imagine that any person that is not really wanting to work would only get themselves hurt going into flatbed.
