So some things have come up in recent weeks and I’m giving serious thought to hanging it up after 30+ years. This may have been covered somewhere else but I’ve confused myself by overthinking this. My question is with all the new regs can I maintain a Class A CDL with doubles/triples, tank and haz mat endorsement without maintaining a current medical card. I understand to work I would need to get a current medical card but not sure if I can keep the CDL. I may or may not be leaving Interstate driving permanently. Can I downgrade to Intrastate only?
Thinking about hanging it up, question about CDL

Not sure if you are in Texas, and not sure with my limited knowledge what all that is on the webpage means, I see a lot of "NOT required".

I believe you can…..but you still need a card and they will downgrade your license as soon as they realize your med card is no good
Rideandrepair, '88K100, cuzzin it and 2 others Thank this. -
In New York, you can (and I did). I just renewed it as an "in-state only" with all endorsements except hazmat. If I wanted to go back OTR next week, I could just get my medical card, then go to the DMV, take the test, pay the $100 for the hazmat, and another $45 for the 'upgrade' to full CDL.

yes, you can.
in NC, I have a class A, K1 restriction. Intrastate only, no physical.
no endorsements, forgot to check the boxes. oops, oh well.austinmike, LTL Bull and Cat sdp Thank this. -
I kept my CDL for 5 years with no medical card. You can self certify as either Excepted Interstate or Excepted Intrastate. I did the Interstate option.
When I came back to work, I just got a new physical, turned it in to the driver's license office and I was good to go.Rideandrepair, Accidental Trucker, Flat Earth Trucker and 4 others Thank this. -
Thanks all for the responses, like I said I was overthinking it. I’m in Ohio. The medical card isn’t the issue, just a hassle and waste of a day and 100$. Other options have appeared and may be leaving trucking after doing nothing else since 1986.

Not in Oregon. 2 yr you can still retrieve it with a med card. Then poof it's gone.
Numb Thanks this.
