5/27/11 I feel kinda funny about posting under Experienced truckers advice but this seems the best place for this. Friday evening I was running up I55 just south of Joliet IL. and came upon a traffic backup due to one lane construction. Traffic was backed up 6 or 7 miles from 4 wheelers running up left lane instead of everyone getting in line and moving through. So, I, got the bright idea of blocking the left lane and rode next to another truck for a while. Came up on a bear and he pulled me to the side and wrote me a ticket for, " Impeping the normal flow of traffic" .
Not posting to b#*^! but just as a warning that they will ticket this behaivour. So now I have a ticket on my record, my boss and safty guy think it's bullcrap, so I am not in too much trouble at work, but $125 bucks is going to dent my wallet for sure. So, fellow newbies, when u hear that trucker yelling on the cb for someone to get in the lane and block it so the 4 wheelers cant run up it, tell him to do it and stay in line. The trooper was pretty cool, and I don't have a problum with him doing his job, but want to warn you that it seems this won't be tolorated any more.
stay safe.

I have heard this happen in Illinois before. Usually in that area.

All you accomplish playing traffic cop is moving the back up further behind you. That is why you got a ticket.
Use both lanes until the merge point.rjones56 Thanks this. -
PA will write you up for the same. We have a law against it.

So apparently does Illinois

Your opinion, not everyone's.

And many other states.

Using both lanes until the merge is the most efficient if you take turns at the merge. The reason it gets screwed up is because the big trucks know that they can't trust either the four-wheelers or the other big trucks to let them into the open lane when they get to the merge.
Smooth flow through construction zones requires courtesy and smooth acceleration/deceleration...and we all know that most drivers (CDL or no) have a tendency to lack those characteristics.AXE, outerspacehillbilly, Big Don and 9 others Thank this.
