what's everyone's thoughts on how to rotate tires. I've got some tires that are wearing unevenly. Some tire guys say once a tire was rotated in one direction you should not change it. Other tire guys say it doesn't matter. I don't want to dismount and mount for no reason

I did my drives in an X so that they did rotate the opposite direction. Steers I just did side to side, never broke them down to keep them spinning the same direction.
ducnut, Deere hunter, rank and 1 other person Thank this. -
Unless it has an arrow on the side saying direction of rotation, then I wouldn’t worry about it.
Here’s a little bedtime reading.

Fronts go straight back rears get cross to the front
Oxbow Thanks this. -
Never found a need to rotate tires. They all wear pretty much even. BFG/Michlin/Continental/ mold cure retreads from formerly Olson tire now Bauerbilt on trailers

My understanding is that keeping the same rotational direction was designed out of tires shortly after radial tires came on the scene. The bias ply tires would become “biased” to a rotation account of the design of the polyester and fiber layers, in time. When direction changed, they were very prone to delaminating and flying apart.

I run Hancook DMO4’s on my truck and rotate the drives in an X pattern every 20k. I’m in the dirt most of my days so I spin and slip more than most. I’ll average 70-80k miles per set till they need to be swapped out. If I don’t rotate em I’ll wear the drives out too quick to where I can’t keep up with wearing em all down the same and I hate changing only 4.
Steers are continentals and get swapped side to side every oil change. 10-12k when I get the time to do em -
Don't they rotate every time you drive?
wichris and FullMetalJacket Thank this.
