Pretty sure my butt would have been brittle when it hit the ground, if it was that cold.
I have lots of times barely had the end of the tip in on when pulling a step deck to get another notch.
I finally got smart and bought ratcheting winches for it, but never installed them. They are useless in Alaska. lol

    booley and Lepton1 Thank this.

You mention an important fact. There are items where tightening your straps TOO much can damage the freight.

I delivered a load of 8 electric car charging stations this morning at a construction site. I had the second delivery appointment. The first delivery all 8 housings were crushed inward because the driver over tightened his straps.

Be smart about it. There's definitely a time to get gymnastic and tighten the #### out of your straps or chains. Pipe loads, coils, etc. need that high C. Anything with thin metal that can bend or break you need to snug it. Crushing down too hard on hazmat drums and you can have a spill.

I used to haul some aluminum snow machine trailers to Alaska. The Alcan is rough and has some good frostheaves too, everything must be extra secure.
The snomachine trailers had about 6 in tall sides that would bend easy, no way to tighten them down. I battery powered circle saw and impact roe the screws.
I always built a frame on the top of the top trailer, to where I was tightening on the wood and it was only putting pressure on the floor.
Lots of freight can be easily damaged with the straps,

    Lepton1 Thanks this.

Get the longer bar with the boxed end at a truck stop near you. Bend your knees a little, put some muscle into it if you must.

I’m a skinny ##### in every meaning of the word. 6’ tall and 155lbs on a good day after a buffet... I’ve never had an issue tightening straps or snap binders so #### don’t fall off.
