Ive got a 12.7 in a w900(glider) and for the last just under 20k miles Ive gotten 7.2 mpg. Rebuild for this should be well under 11-12k......
Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
Detroit parts are dirt cheap, as cheap as big cam parts. Tearing an old motor down takes no time at all, we did a big cam in about 30 hours, with very little experience.Rideandrepair and Dave_in_AZ Thank this.

If ya dont want to wait till some guy I know needs one done you could call a couple shops and ask them an expected time frame. It's listed as 25 book hours. Which is a lot more than you need if you are familiar with them, and got everything set up ready to go.Rideandrepair, spindrift, nikmirbre and 1 other person Thank this.

Yep. Not nearly as much stuff bolted on them that needs to come off just to get to the engine. I don't even pull the manifolds and turbo unless it needs head work. Just leave them bolted to the head and lift it all together.Rideandrepair Thanks this.

Dealers and big shops like to take their time and keep you in there longer so that way you will get bored and buy more parts. Lol. Lots of little shops and independent guys can rebuild in a weekend if all the parts needed are on the bench waiting.
Rideandrepair, spindrift, ChevyCam and 3 others Thank this. -
Right. If i waited till it's apart to drive to tampa for the kit, that would add half a day.Rideandrepair and Cabinover101 Thank this.
