What costs and downtime? I've had the death engine, CM2250 worst F engine ever Cummins has produced right?
That truck has never missed a beat in 3 years. It's 7.2 MPG lifetime on 700K.
Now it's at Cummins for the $8700 after treatment overhaul. Didn't leave me walking. Still hasn't missed a beat.
Now these are aero trucks that are driven conservatively. And one is at 7.2 one at 7.8
So if the old smokey will average that, I'll kiss your ### and you can call a crowd to watch.
The two 16's are nearer 8 mpg as an average, and the guy with the 17' the newest version with an auto is at 8.2 so far.Rideandrepair and rank Thank this. -
New it was $106,000Rideandrepair Thanks this.

We all hope you don't experience the ####ty problems you read about others having with those, some of us just figure if we're going to gamble with that kind of money it'll be in Vegas. I couldn't afford to be making payments on a 170k dollar truck and have something go wrong and it be in the shop for 2 weeks. I know a guy who bought a new 389 and wished he hadn't, he had a nice older 379 that he'd just overhauled and was paid for, he now runs just as hard as he did with that just to make payments.Rideandrepair and Cabinover101 Thank this.

With interest that was over 120k I'm sure, that's losing 2/3ds it's value in six years, that's horrible, and convinces me even more there's something wrong with people who are buying new trucks.Rideandrepair Thanks this.

What engine in the 389?Rideandrepair Thanks this.

I’m getting 7.0 all day long. Sometimes I get 7.5 and times 6.8, worst I had 6.5. This is on a well tuned Cat. 600+ to the ground. And I’m run the aftermarket DPF . 3:36 rears, RTO16913.Rideandrepair Thanks this.

Yes it is a day cab. Standard sleeper cab wheelbase and o/o specs. It was one of a dozen that got traded in by a local regional fleet. He just bought the one to retire his ‘88 T600 that needs a rebuild. They re-sold quick. Did not sit long.
Looks like the rest of them have since gone on to local construction work and another farm.Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
I'm thinking they buy several thousand at a time. And probably to get those prices they need to keep buying them. That means they gotta turn them.
You can get a loaded, loaded, 680 with a paccar motor right now , 2020, for in the $130K's including FET.
Old smokey for anything other than a hobby is not a business decision, certainly not a smart one. Maybe if the first thing that matters to you is tearing the engine apart over the weekend, but that's actually not even on my list.Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
Pulling a box?Rideandrepair and Diesel Dave Thank this.
