Hi guys I have a question about a 18918B. When I move the splitter from front to back it makes a growl sound at the shifter knob. Everything else seems to be fine and shifts good. Its just getting a little annoying. Maybe a kit or something. Thanks

Have you ever changed the little air filter on back of transmission. Usually lower right corner on back of transmission to the right of drive shaft little aluminum cone shaped cap that unscrews and a little filter cartridge is inside. They get plugged with sludge/slime and restrict air flow thru air system making the splitter and range selector operate sluggishly. Start there also check the air lines on top of transmission going up shifter to be sure they're not leaking ,kinked or plugged. If air psi is diminished it will cause the transmission to change the ranges slowly and gears will grind instead engaging smoothly. Hope it's helpful .

Smokin, jason is probably right. Its a washable filter. Its in rhe regulator assembly. You can take it apart and clean. We had this happen before and i had gone through every piece on the tranny and still had splitter problems. Got thinking and made a little shim for the regulator spring with a washer and bang, it worked. Ordered new filter regulator assembly and no more problems. To work correctly the tranny needs 66psi. Take filter out and clean it. While in there put a small washer under spring. May have to stack a couple. See if that fixes it then order the part.

Opps answered wrong person. Sorry kool. Smokin I am not at shop today but can get you number tomorrow if you dont get it before then.

That would be great, I'm not in any rush, and I may pull one out of another transmission to see if that might help the issue on my dads 18spd.

cody, the filter/reg. assembly is a-4740. i just replaced the whole kit when i rebuilt my 18913a. new for the whole thing was around 60 bucks.if your just doing the filter, the kit part number should be k-1698. comes with o-rings and filter.

And do yourself a favor and bleed off all truck air pressure before you open the system. Otherwise you might get a lot of debris/dirty grease in your eyes that you can wash out while all the truck's air rushes out through wherever you opened it up. And don't ask me how I know this. :biggrin_25513:
