I have a good GPS.. Rand Mcnally, I also have the current 2014 Rand Mcnally atlas... I am on a dedicated so I pretty much go the same route and places... so I have those city map books for where my stops are...

GPS are electronic and therefore can break or fail.. so I would never rely solely on one.. I do like that my GPS is wifi enabled and connected to my phones hot spot... so I get up to the minute traffic reports...

Trip planing is good to learn and know.. so it is good you are being taught it... a lot of students do not know how to use a map.. and itis good knowledge to have..

I use my rand McNally GPS and Qualcomm. Also have 6 navigation apps on my phone. I also call for directions once I get close. Atlas? What's that? Haven't opened mine in probably 5 years.
