Trucks, keep modernizing with the technology? Or keep rebuilding?

I've heard many horror stories of the first year or two of the dpf. My 2009 Volvo is obviously equipped with it and it regens constantly I don't know if this is normal or an issue. I have zero experience with it. Which raised this whole thread about. This is all great and helpful advice. It sure sounds like it's my best interest to maybe downgrade a shade or two and try life from there.

If you have to regen that often, you probably need to replace your DPF.

All the 08-09 trucks regen frequently . The new ones (014) are better , but not for me.

Currently rebuilding my 99 peterbilt 379 cat and very happy with that. This is the second rebuild for her at 1.8 million. Hoping to see 3 million miles out of her. Yes it's the one in my avatar.
I can't run Calif. anymore but rarely did when I could.

It's not a difficult thing to do... detach some band clamps, detach the sensors, remove the old DPF, install the new one. Then again, maybe it's just a model year matter... if it's that problematic, probably be best to have a diagnostic run, although I'm sure Volvo would charge out the nose for it.

I will certainly look into that. Like I said it's been one thing after another with it. My dad bought this truck without my knowledge. He learnt the hard way with it. Not saying it's been a complete lemon or a complete loss of money. But obviously maintence is higher and it seems to be something wrong month after month. My freightliner has almost 600,000 more miles and I've had it longer. I've replaced the EGR cooler and valve and put new virgin rubber on it and changed the oil and still haven't spent as much money as I have on the volvo. Lesson= learned!!

Many a po' folk learned that lesson the hard way. I ran an 07 730 with the D16. But it was the guy who ran it after me who things started going to hell for.
