Is a TWIC card really worth it?
Mine just expired and I can't think of many places I went that asked for it at the seaports and miltary bases.
    What is it like $200?

Only worth it if you are often going to sea ports or military bases. I used to pull a fair number of banana loads from the ports of NJ and PA and DE, and it would have made sense for me to get it. At the time my employer did not want to pay for me to get it and he covered the extra fee for the escort to the dock. I think it is just another stupid expense. It would have been worth it to buy it, the cost at the time was I think about $130. It would have quickly paid for itself.

Valid for 5 years and costs $128.

Just another way to pick money out of our pockets. What else is new

I could have gotten a few more loads with my last company, BUT, i have no desire to be screwing around the L.A. ports. Waiting all day to get loaded. Spend enough time as it is doing regular pickups.

There were times when i needed it. But glad i never got it. And certainly don't need it now.

if you haven't had any need for it in the past, you may not have any need for it in the future. if so, then you can always go and get a new one later. otherwise i too dropped my useless TWIC.

I have mine at the moment but if I were you, I wouldn't get it until I actually needed it and if an employer needed me to have it than they can pay for it.

When you need it, it's to late to get it!
Took a couple months to get mine.

When it comes to trucking,. I have always been a better to have an not need, kind of guy.

Much better than to need and not have.

i think that is dependent of the job you are currently at. for me, i deliver to the same places every night. we have no need for a TWIC. my past 2 employers, there was no need, but i had the TWIC back then, and it was useless.

a future employer may REQUIRE it, then a driver can go and get one. this can be discovered during the interview process.

Seems all the fuel loading racks around here are requiring it now, so I need it. Had it many years before and only used it once to get onto an Air Force Base

As you can tell by the different opinions, the answer is it depends. If you need it, it is worth it. If you don't, it isn't. I have used mine enough to make it worth to me.

    Lepton1 Thanks this.
