Just wondering what everyone on here thinks about the twic cards. Kinda spendy having to fork over the 130 or whatever it is and take a day out of your week to get fingerprinted ect..... Then have to go back there another 6weeks later to pick up the card. Wonder if its worth the hassle, cause I have heard rumors about shippers that will be starting to require twic cards but im assuming it will mostly be for the ports. But from JR Schugels mouth is that kraft will be fasing into twic cards down the road I just wonder how many other places will start to go to this.

I got mine... it wasnt as much as a hassle as I thought. Fortunatly there was an office within 30 minutes of my house. Did it... in and out on seperate home times.

I used the one in Tacoma, WA. Cant get a truck in there, but there is a Flying J a couple blocks down the street.

Our company had the TSA, or whatever company contracted by them, to come in and setup shop at our HQ Terminal for a few months. They may still be there for all I know. Company Drivers are required to have one, and the L/O & O/O are being strongly urged to get them as opportunity for loads that require them would passed over them to someone who has one.

Yes, there are rumors of quite a few shipper/recievers that are going to shift to a TWIC policy. I would imagine it wouldnt start until well after all the ports are finally online.

Heard a story the other day about one of our drivers having it fairly easy at a port while all the non-TWIC trucks were segregated to a seprate area and alot of check in/out procedures.

The guy who activated my card was pretty cool and loved his job, seems they transfer him every couple weeks to a different office based on demand. Been in 5 different states and crossing his fingers for that tropical paradise of Hawaii...

I wouldn't count on finding parking at that J.

A lot of chemical companies are starting to require them. My brother drives chip truck and two of the three pulp and paper mills he delivers to are requiring them.

A lot of people aren't getting them but I look at it as one more thing on your resume that may help you to get hired or as you stated getting a load nobody else can.

We got ours 132.50 times 2! But yes the chemical plants are requiring this and there may be cases where if you have the card you get a load and the others don't it renew every 5 years and you get to go through the whole thing again as well as pay the cost whatever that will be:biggrin_2552:

Well, less than 24 hours after my post earlier in this thread... I got to use my TWIC card for the first time.

Gloucester City, NJ... at the port. There were non-TWIC trucks... I dont know what extra procedures they had but they did have to pay and extra 5 dollars and had to wear the Port's Orange saftey vest with "NON-TWIC COMPLIANT" plastered on the front and back.

TWIC card holders could wear their own, or buy a brand new in the package and one to keep for 5.00. (the bright neon yellow kind)

I know I got through the gate alot quicker... scanned my card and handed me a gate pass

Its a Wal-Mart load from start to finish of Produce from Peru. Wal-Mart office right there in the Port along with a couple other companies.

When I picked my card up there was a list of ports and dates for when the ports will come online with the program. I think this port was Jan. 6

Like I said... I didnt see any non TWIC procedures other than the drivers without one wearing the big Orange "NON-COMPLIANT" vests and I wasnt thinking to notice if they were being escorted as I have heard some ports are doing.

There was a huge holding lot outside the port filled with waiting trucks, but the security gaurd directing traffice sent me straight to the gate and there was a large staging/parking area in front of the Shipping Docks... I wasnt at the gate long enough to see anyone directed away from the gate toward the lot outside the port as some form of segregation.

Dang it posted this and got booted offline! I hate reposting.....:biggrin_25516: I heard a lot of co's was cashing in on twic by having drivers on site. They ride in with the non twic holder and charge the co's. Twic lumpers....:biggrin_2554: I dropped my hazmat since the last load I hauled was back in the 80's. Now they figured out away to get my money back on the twic:biggrin_25516: Oh, the twic card is just another way to gouge the driver.. transportation worker ID credential
