Can't beat that.

Pay varies widely depending on the type of trucking he does. If he has the endorsements; tanker/hazmat, doubles-triples, TWIC, passport, then the potential is there for the much better paying jobs.
For example, he hires on with a good flatbed or tanker company, then the first 12 months after orientation/training he has a good chance of making over $50K as a solo driver OTR.
Check these companies websites for hiring area and avg pay; they all hire new CDL graduates:
SVTN
Superior-Carriers
CTL Transportation - (OTR tanker division-Comcar website)
Melton Truck Lines
Cypress Truck Lines
TMC TransportationShaggy, dbrook, Cetane+ and 1 other person Thank this. -
Do you know of any tanker companies that have a pet policy?
-
There may be some, but I'm not aware of any. Check the websites. I doubt it though since they go to many chemical plants. Some of those plants you can't even take the wife/spouse past the gate.

lol im tired and bored with the reefer and van scene but my little co pilot is a must to go with me.

how much to expect can vary SO drastically that the "range" is huge. location, type of freight, company, work ethic etc etc. ive seen posts on here for first year drivers making 25 to 30k. I am a first year driver and am on pace to hit 40 to 45k. and I do not spend weeks and/or months on the road. think outside the box, look at smaller family owned companies, disregard the experience needed requirement. also look into flatbedding. its not as hard as a lot of drivers make it sound plus every load is different so it keeps things more interesting instead of the standard bump and runs of the freight box drivers. it does seem that the training pay amongst most places is pretty standard, peanuts for the first month or two but after that you the driver can play a small role in your fate, if you wanna hustle or you wanna be lazy. obviously the dot regs and your dispatcher play a larger role in your income but your work ethic will make you or break you in this industry. imo. sorry for the rant

I didn't think so.I have looked with no luck and why I won't haul tanker unless its a local job.Thinking about Pilot though thanks to you.

Why not try out local tanker? If it doesn't work out go back to van. 11 years experience. Earned it too be picky of employers.

If it were me. Giving up a few months steady income would be worth the experience.pattyj Thanks this.
