I had a 18 autoshit in my 01 Peterbilt. Its now converted to a manual and I'm much happier

Manual, there are better things out there than what Ultra-shift was. The Ultra-shift 13 speeds we had are now traded off, they were supposed to be better, but they didn't impress me favorably, either.

Eaton Fuller's (3rd Generation) auto-shift....is stupid!!! 1), Truck @ the Dealer: no start, dealer replaces the starter...actual fault, input-shaft speed sensor. 2), Truck @ the dealer: stuck in gear, dealer diagnoses, low (voltage) current to the tranny wire harness, replaces trans-wiring harness...actual fault-alternator power wire is 75% broken...but, truck works for another week. etc,etc,etc...the trained Freightliner Mechanic is not as smart as the eaton fuller engineer. due to this knowledge gap...stay with Manuel Transmission. im annoyed.

I rather have manual, With any of the automatic I always hit the dock to hard, harder than I do with a manual, and when you hit hard hard, you do not look professional Hurts my pride.

How many times must we cover the exact same topic over and over?

I currently drive manual. i think an auto would be nice so i dont have to move my leg to downshift on uphills. ( or my arm) It interrupts my grove to have to shift lol.
Actualy the main reason I hate having to shift on hills in a manual is it turns off my cruise control. In an auto, it can downshift and up shift with the cruise left on. (cuz you know hitting that button is so hard [well actually it is because sometimes it doesn't work lol) -
IMO - use manual. More work at steering wheel, but less problems

Like everything in human life, technology is a learning curve, planes fly already, diesel engines do not polute at all when the systems work, auto boxes are getting better with each generation, ...europe like it or not is way ahead on them at least, drove scania semiauto first in 1998 and it was verry good/reliable.....that side of world has less speed travel but 40k kilos.....thats 88000 lbs......gross...
Ofcourse nothing/nobody is perfect i'd say far from it...including the 60y old us drivers with 50y experience LOL....may include tricycle ride but anyway.....i've been here for 10y now and owned 2000model with 13 manual.....i just bought 2014 kw t680 with 13 ultra plus((last gen....out since 2010)) while not perfect, box does what it is set up to do from factory but can reprogramed to have the shift point changed a bit ......call custom program...at least that i was told by eaton engineer when i called them for info...
Auto can give some troubles down the road as will drivers with little experince with manual.....but all of did it at begining......i'd say depends on ur status buy 13 man learn to float them....did it for 9 y from the 1st day i bought my volvo......make money wait for techno to get better still ..... -
Btw all about beeing rough hitting docks etc does not apply for the plus ultra ...truck does not move at all forward/backward untill u push accell pedal and if u do it smoth it will go and keep that way......
If u're interested in new truck with ultra find a dealer with one in stock and drive test it.....ul like ut....i know i do already.....asking this here on the air is ........
