I'm trying to get personal insurance for my car and every insurance company keeps finding a violation that I got a year ago for going on a road that was 5 ton weight restricted in my company truck and I paid that off and because of that it's supposedly on my record and insurance company want to Jack their prices through the roof. Is there anything I can do about that or am I screwed and just have to pay the really high insurance prices

What’s unfair is the cost to the road that your ticket doesn’t even come close to covering

I tell people to fight every ticket to get it reduced to a non moving violation. Yes it takes time and money but it can cost in the long run too if you don't. This is one example.

How much more are you looking at without the ticket.

Whenever I had to renew and they found a ticket they would ask me about. I would tell the agent it was a work ticket in a CMV. They would sometimes ask for a written statement to that affect. It would never affect my price.

great advice. In my younger days, I got at least 1 speeding ticket a year in Arkansas.

I went to court every time and told the judge all I cared about was keeping it off my record. Without fail, the judge said if I paid the fine right then and didn't get another speeding ticket for 6 months oe whatever, it would stay off my record and it did.

    I no longer speed btw.

I have a GREAT question!! How do you know the insurance companies are charging you more because of this, like can you get any proof and how do they calculate the increase???

You know insurance companies are all about knowing everything but secretly keeping the rate calculation away from you. There is no scientific mathematical formula in the world that can be proven to come up with a premium based on human behavior

You show up at the agent, sit down and eyeball her computer as she pull rates calculus enters your information. Boom the system mainframe within insurance comes up with a large number if you have not had insurance in your name and so on.

Its all regulated at the state level with a goal for 85% of the money you pay to go to their profits or holdings. Against expected losses.

Long ago when insurers laughed and said I needed 1500 cash upfront to get a liability for car, even as a trucker... the state provided access to a program where I bought it direct from them bypassing all insurers in that specific problem of affordability for something like 600 annually.

Eventually inmarriage, home owner ship and all that stuff, insurance rates got really cheap for so much here in Arkansas. I continue to double or triple insure where possible at those low rates so that whatever may happen it will be not as a ruin.
