A friend of mine who used to pull cans could keep it off duty when he ran from his yard over to the container terminal, about 2 miles away, 5 minutes. He'd switch to on duty once he was satisfied there were no issues with the chassis. That could have saved him 2 hours against his 14.

I think I get what you're trying to ask. Driving is line 3 regardless. I think you may be getting confused by the on-duty time. Before we had QUALCOMM, we would log the city and 2 hours on duty not driving for 5 stops, let's say, and technically you're supposed to account for the amount of time it took to get between the stops. Most times ,if you got questioned, the LEO would just see you had on-duty time for you're deliveries and not press you. With the q/c, it will change between Line 3 and 4 as your day progresses, there is no "beating the system" anymore.Unfortunately, if you run out of your 11 you may well wind up somewhere other than where you want to be, it has happened to me on more than one occasion. Ultimately, you're really not gaining or losing on your 70, but you will not always wind up at your happy place

E logs just make you and your company plan your day so your parked somewhere safe before your time runs out. If you allow your company to make you run your clock out and park wherever then thats on you.

The point of this thread is that with the mandate the parameters that e-logs work within will be changing, becoming much less flexible than e-logs are today. As it stands now the user gets to decide how far the truck can move or how fast it can go before going to driving. That's all going to change and the way it's written out in the rule will make it hard if not impossible to even drive from a parking spot alongside a driveway and into a facility without putting yourself on duty. Yes I know that should be on duty but that little wiggle room, not having to start the day until your ready to roll can make a big difference.Bean Jr. Thanks this.

But that should never be driving.

Won't be driving but it'll start your day as a yard move and be on dutyBean Jr. Thanks this.
