I'm amazed they were OK with not using a clutch. You'd have thought I killed someone the couple times I forgot to touch it while one of their safety guys was in the truck. They used to have a hard company policy about not floating. They were failing guys on their annual check ride for it.
Good luck to ya over there. While the pay was nothing to write home about I got along with my dispatcher and he took care of me. Always got me home when I wanted.

They told me to make sure i use it when i do the final test. Or atleast make it look like i do. I'm on salary on national dedicated so i know what my minimum is. Plus i get extra once I'm out for 3 weeks or more. Told wife not to expect to see me for atleast 2 months. Lucky she doesn't like me being home lol

Glad to hear it's going smoothly. Know Ur over qualified for the Pumkin Gig but just get Ur time in Safely and move on and up!

It is what it is man. Insurance dictates "I'm not qualified" so i gotta do what i gotta do. So I'll do it the best of my ability and move on from there.

Make the most, and do the job the best you can. It doesn't matter who's name is on the door. That a true professional. And besides there are a few who really like it over there.
-
And don't know how to do it any other way. I am a firm believer of.
If your going to do it do it to the best of your ability, complete the task and move on. If your not going to do that, don't start it in the first place. -
That's what I wound up doing when they were testing. I would only push it enough to trigger the switch. Just make it look like I was. I would actually grind more when trying not to float.SAR, DDlighttruck, cke and 1 other person Thank this.

I agree, there's nothing magical about chains and in a lot of cases they're more likely to come loose or damage the freight. I'd have to see the load up close to decide but straps only seems reasonable to me. And I strap over tarps for securement if the situation requires. If it's tight, what difference does it make. And a 30' load at 25k really ain't much. I don't see how chains over the top are gonna prevent it from coming forward better than straps. If the load is that precarious, get a strap around the front if possible..

Gotta agree. If it's machinery I generally ask the loaders how drivers usually secure it, because they've frequently got experience with identical pieces. Having read more of the posts, it seems this load had some logical points to chain. But if you hook onto something without asking the loader, you're liable to break it. I probably would have taken this guy's advice if he wasn't being a jerk about it.noluck Thanks this.
