Hi, I got my CDL A two years ago but never used it due to me being on parole and unable to leave the state (Illinois). I was released from prison in April of 2018 and recently got off parole last year (2022).
Now I’ve recently renewed my CDL, obtained my renewed medical card and am about to receive my renewed Hearing Exemption from the fmcsa. My question is, would any company hire and train me or would I have to go back to school for a refresher and also, can anyone tell me which companies actually do hire felons? Thank you guys/gals.

You would probably benefit quite much from reading the following recent Forum thread on this same subject/question:

Ex felon looking for work | TruckersReport.com Trucking Forum | #1 CDL Truck Driver Message Board (thetruckersreport.com)

One takeaway from the above--CFI hires felons:

    Student Drivers - CFI (cfidrive.com)

I don't know if they would be currently hiring (or in the near future) in your area. If you already have a CDL--you should be good to go with them (no refresher really needed, since you're a brand new driver).

Given the above info--call 'em and ask.

Also--you'll make a better first impression with them--if you fill out the employment application on-line, first.....wait a couple of days--and then call them.

I'd get that hearing exemption--before any of the above.....

Many companies hire felons. Could be a problem if it's a sex crime though.
Yeah, you'll need some training, but plenty of companies will do that; usually run with a trainer for awhile before going solo.

Thank you. I’m going to check that out and apply first thing once my hearing exemption arrives.

No sex crime. I have a violent crime. Nothing sexual.

You're in the hiring area for Sysco.
Sysco is driver unload and usually home every day.
