    I work for werner and we do a lot of expedited loads going to UPS. It was a drop and hook at an airport, I think lousiville intl. I had to have a security guard escort me to the trl drop area. I dropped my loaded and went to pick up an empty, there was 4 empties so as usual I pick the newest trl. Well the trailer had a ton of crap all over the back of it. Probably 10 empty pallets, and a bunch of cardboard, not a little bit of cardboard but huge 5 foot by 5 foot thick sheets of it, they probably weighed about 20 lbs, which wasn't that heavy but the sheer size of it made it annoying to work with. Then they had a ton of leftover stretch wrap all over the place. What a mess. I was a little baffled by this, since when you pick up an empty trailer its supposed to be EMPTY. You know, except the typical little bits of broken pallets and maybe a bit of dust.

    So I ask the guard and he said he didnt know nothing about it. I asked if i could dump the crap on the ground behind the trailer and he said thats not allowed. It was the middle of the night on sunday, so there was nobody else working there for me to speak to. I just transferred the stuff over to the trailer next to mine, which happened to also have a bunch of pallets on the back. That was a lot more work than I cared to do. I don't mind working but not when it's someone else job, I kept getting splinters in my hand that punctured my work gloves. I was pretty upset by the end of that load. I think what I was most upset about was not being able to understand WHY. Why can't UPS unload the WHOLE load like they are supposed to? Do they think they are doing us a favor by letting us keep a few empty pallets? If I showed up at my next load with that junk in the back of my trailer they would just look at me like i'm an #######.

    My question is, why does UPS do this? Is there any other shippers or recievers who are THIS lazy? I am confused as to what I should have done. And when i asked the security guard, he said no other truckers have complained. What did all the other truckers before me do???

    edit: i just rememberd I went to another UPS somewhere near chicago a few days ago, no escort this time and nobody was around so I just tossed them out on the ground. Getting tired of this.

    i do not know why UPS does this, but i too have had problems in the past from UPS at the Northboro, MA area...??? (off rte 9)..??

    anyway, why didn't you just pick another trailer and LEAVE..?? to heck with the "newest trailer"...

    also what i would have done was take pictures of this crap and hand them over to your company...

    UPS feels like they do not need thier own trash.......screw'em.....report them.....although i highly suspect, that your company will just tell you next time, "deal with it"......and if you go there and its dark, and no one is around..???

    well.....you figure that one out for yourself.....i did......

    :biggrin_25523: Get used to it, happens all the time. That is exactly what I would have done, place the dunnage, scrap, or whatever in a trailer that already had some. Just be sure to notify your company what you did. It will happen again.

    SOP for UPS. Their racks and rails etc. are right up to the trailer doors, so when they unload, there's no room to shuffle pallets around.

    I couldn't imagine expending that much time and effort for FREE when there were other trailers there.

    You'll be told to deal with it.. and you should - your company ios hooked up with them, they do this to everyone.. and having their teeth in that contract is a big deal for your company... so "they" will put up with it... meaning YOU will.

    I've seen this at several places, not just UPS - take it, find a dumpster, get rid of the stuff...not that much work if you pull into a truckstop with yout rear door near the dumpster... and hey, you have the newest trailer - same thing I've always done.

    I'd rather spend 5-10 minutes throwing a little trash out of a newer trailer, than 3-4 hours in a shop once I find something wrong with an older trailer..

    good old UPS....you gotta love 'em.....

    and make no mistake, when they screw something up (as they usually do).......it will be YOUR fault......

    as i was told by a UPS regional manager when we were doing contracting work for them....when confronted with the documentation in black and white of a costly mistake they made.....i was curtly and rudely told that "we are UPS, we don't make mistakes....if there was a mistake made, you made it and we'll make it look that way".....

    that's their operating philosophy and corprorate culture......you'll have to learn to live with it or do what I did and go to work for someone who doesn't do any of their work.

    you're either one of them and live on planet UPS or you're just another mere mortal and clueless idiot.....just ask one of them....they'll tell you as much.

    Ditto all of the above in Secaucus, NJ. Although years ago, when I was with Star Transportation, if we had to remove/relocate pallets and dunnage, we were paid (if I recall) ten bucks. I'm sure that courtesy is long gone, though...
