    For emergencies only!

I use maps for every trip, every route, no matter where Im going. Maps are the way to go. A map has never taken me down a gravel road between 2 cornfields....A map has never told me to "make the next legal U turn" on the interstate.

I preload the address into my GPS and dont even think about using it unless something comes up......We all know how Murphys Law goes.....You can drive 1000 miles and not see a single exit closed, but the exit that you do need will be the only one closed. This is the only time my GPS comes in to play.

Dont become a GPS idiot! Dont rely on the #### thing, even those truckers GPS's can get you lost. Use a little common sense. If you do choose to use it, and it tells you to exit the interstate 500 miles too soon onto some old county road, think twice! I have seen and heard of idiot drivers blindly following their GPS only to get bit in the ###. And they have the nerve to blame the GPS. Its only a computer, it is not programmed for common sense! (Although, neither are most people)

Have a good day and stay tuned for my next rant.:biggrin_25521:

Good point, a GPS is an aide, and not the almighty gospel leading you to your next stop.

Your GPS should be a spare tire, not your steering wheel!

The GPS helps but never rely on it! I drove for over 25 years and never owned nothing but the CB and motor carrier atlas.

My GPS was telling me to make a left turn on I-59 north into the median the other day?
I use mine more for estimated arrival time, miles, driving time and speedo.

i like mine for the big city driving where when you do miss your turn you can have some hope that its not going to turn me down a one way street and get me the hell out of town

If you use a laptop GPS you can review and change you route before you go, even look at satellite photos to check turns. Plan before you start, know where it wants you to go and adjust for a truck. It is still not 100% accurate but you can control your route.

My GPS is usually pretty accurate, however this morning she placed my destination on the wrong side of I-35 here in San Antonio. Google maps was no help either, it placed the reciever right ON I-35!

Like the driver said, Google Maps, satellite view will never put you in the wrong spot. Not only that you get a picture of where you need to turn into your delivery. With that being said, it's still just an aid. Be Safe!
