    Ok - I'm looking to get another truck. I'm so put off with Cummins - so no more Petes, that I'm going to look at Volvos.
    Is anyone one out there doing infield work using a Volvo?

    All manufacturers are having problems with their emissions equipment. It's growing pains industry wide. No matter who you go with, there will be issues.

    We run a DD13 that has issues with the SCR system. But has been mostly reliable.

    The 2013 Pete we have falls under 2010 EPA. It had issues electrically for the first 6 months. However, I see no end in sight for the problems with the 2014 that has tons more sensors.
    Perhaps im reaching, but I've "heard" that since Volvo has been in the DEF game longer than the north American manufacturers,
    that they have figured out their issues? I know all manufacturers have problems... my 2007 Western Star had the dreaded twin turbos, but gosh (who the hell says "gosh" anymore?) I miss her!
    I'm thinking of going pre-emission. I asked my finance company if they would allow me to purchase a glider - and I've been told a firm NO.
    So that brings me back to Volvo.
    Just looking for somebody's experience has been - both good and bad.

    I own a Volvo 780/2008 with Volvo /D13 motor running team, hwy not oilfields ; got it new in July 2007 ; this week we reached 1,200,000 miles original motor;still pulling great not burning oil; the difference from my 2008 and a 2013/2014 is the DEF; I had problems with EGR/ injector cups but Volvo fixed lots of the problems with a series of recalls;
    I know a dozen of owner operators with new Volvos with DEF, most are running ok, great mpg, ,; this motor is maybe the best on the market today on fuel economy, i get 8-9 mpg;
    Honestly, if I would need a new truck, i would get a Volvo 780 with/ D13/13 Eaton manual again;

    Thank You so much!
    I had heard about the injector issue from my financing guy - but is Volvo difficult to deal with? I've had nothing from Cummins. They guess at how to solve the issues, and then I get 3 hours away from the dealership and the DEF light is on again.
    It would be interesting to know how the Volvos fair in oil because of the time idling. But I do appreciate your input!

    Cheers!

    It almost seems to be luck of the draw with cummins motors lol. My previous 2013 had no problems in 80000km and my current 2014 is good so far with 15000km on it.
