finally took the leap 2 weeks ago and filed for all the state paperwork involved in opening a company. filed with legalzoom and it was quick and easy. there was a few things I had to send out on my own, but no big hassel. now that were ready for the next step (filing for authority, insurance, ifta, etc) there was something probably very important I need to figure out.

besides consulting with a lawyer/accountant, can someone explain to me "for dummies" style, how w2's work. it is my first business that im opening, and do not have background in filing out w2's for other people. can my bank do this for me? I know what a w2 is but how to do i give it to my employees?

When my dad had a business the tax lady would fill his out he would give a portion to the employees and he would turn the other part in. Just take figures to the person u have fill out everything for u. My dads tax lady would come by shop every month get all receipt for month and would fill out the state papers for that month and end of year fill out all w2 and federal taxes so get u a good tax person so u don't have to pay in much or anything at all. My boyfriend is a o/o he got back 5500 last year but he pay her 1500 a year to handleanything that pops up before he found her he owed irs over 70000because of bad tax help the one my boyfriend has now wiped all that out and then got him a refund. U need to find u a really good tax person.

if what you are worried about is payroll taxes
there are plenty of companies that will do that for you
take care of all the filings to irs and make out employee checks etc
your accountant can help you find one
you just make out one check/week they do the rest
    the fees are not exiborant

I used Bank of America Business banking for payroll when I had an employee. There is a feature that allows you to print W-2s right from the website when you do your year end paperwork. It also calculated all the payroll taxes and whatnot for me when they were due. I'm sure other banks have similar programs if you want to do it yourself.

Go by your local IRS office or check their website www.irsforms.com. They have instructions on how to handle payroll taxes. If you need an accountant or tax professional, there are a couple that work nationally. OOIDA may be able to refer you to someone who can assist. If you prefer someone local, I would suggest that you find a CPA or accountant that has trucking experience.
