If walmart went out of business, how much impact would it have on the trucking industry? For the sake of arguement, when i mean out of business i mean out of business. That would make a lot of drivers go back otr, wouldn't you think? No more dedicated drivers, i think freight would slow down a bit.

Eventually a retailer or group of retailers would pick up the slack!
People have to have a place to squander their money as the majority hate prosperity.Rollover the Original Thanks this. -
Yes and where would all the trailer trash and state supported go??
-
What would we do without that People of Walmart site or the sexy chick singing those People of Walmart songs??
OMG..................... The ............. Humanity! -
But yes there would be a glut of drivers hitting the market. The unemployment rate would go up at least 2%.
The flood of Freightliners on the market will crash the costs down to where most of these BFI L/P companies would go under due to the cheap cost of all those trucks on the market! And when I say cheap they will be way under the $25,000 they are actually worth as used trucks! Anyone that thinks a used FL is worth any real money is sadly mistaken! But even the banks will do Small busness loans because the loss of walmart will streghten the small companies still alive which reminds me, This Saturday 11/26 is Support Small Bussness Day which meant keep your money out of Walmart , Targer Kmart/sears, Sams and any other big box store and visit your neighborhood stores! Let Walmart sizzle for a day!
BUT the small guys will still be here and will have to increase their buying to keep up with the demand that they will have to cover with that big box stores death!
This is where the small business owner called a truck Owner Operator can broker their own freight and handle the business down the street from his house or his neighbor! It just might bring back the old days of the O/O doing most of the work of freight relocation! He has his customers, he has the shippers for them and he contracts for the freight and the rates thus keeping the economy going and showing those OWS morons how as a business he's keeping their worthless hides alive and he has become a member of the 1% who they so hate!
I only see the economy after a short drop swing back into the black with the small business owners doing more for the US than the megas!
If Obozo had given every home owner and busness owners (all legal ones) about I believe the number broke down to $58,000 we would have gotten the econmeny recovered better than the stupid "bail outs" of those companies that still paid CEOs millions in bonuses! Every home owner buying things or paying large chunks of their loans off would have done way more than a few temporary shovel ready jobs!
With Wal Mart gone the UE rate will sky rocket due to all the store workers gone but when the small guys start getting more people into the stores those old walmart people will go back into the recovery and maybe we'll get back on our feet and because China's biggest customer is gone and no one really wanting the trash they call products, The US will get more industry back up and running as well most of it did come from here and just kinda moved there because of the cheap in several ways labor!
I do dream big but still it's a side effect of that what would question... -
China wouldn't let Walmart go out of business. it would effect their economy to much lol
-
The Government wont let them go out of business, does the term "to big to fail" ring a bell?
-
I don't think you can compare a product store to the group of big banks. They are no where near the size of "to big to fail". Look at the oil companies, they are much bigger than Wal-Mart and they are no where near that size. When a company is to big to fail then it must impact our economy so negatively that the government must step in. If Wal-Mart was to go under I'm sure Sears/K-Mart would be standing by drooling.Rollover the Original Thanks this. -
I think Walmart could effect the economy if it were to close it's doors, maybe not to the effect that GM or Chrysler could have but it would effect our economy. Yes Sears, Target, K-mart would fill the gap but so would have Ford, Toyota and Honda if we would have let GM and Chrysler fail.

Hate to break it to you, but Walmart is the largest company in the world by revenue, approximately 14% larger than ExxonMobil, the second largest (Bank of America 43rd, Citigroup 70th). They are about the eighth largest in the world by market capitalization. Walmart is also the largest employer in the world with over 2,000,000 employees world-wide. If Walmart fell on hard times it would be devastating to the U.S. economy.Rollover the Original Thanks this.
