So, I'm sick of freezing my donkey off and 35 bucks a night to idle is hurting my bottom line. (and turning on and off all night doesn't get me very good sleep) What bunk heater should I buy? I normally drive in areas that are 20f or above. I was considering a coolant heater but that would only be necessary in the real cold weather and then i could just idle still. I'm kinda thinking the added fuel usage all the time plus the additional install expense wouldn't pay for the the fuel the few nights I am in real cold weather. Since im not under 15f regularly i should be able to start the truck fine. Since air is cheaper and more fuel efficient I think I'm going that route.

So I have 2006 FL Columbia raised roof. Which unit is better? Long term I want and APU, but short term i just need heat. What size do i need? How hard are they to install. Can an idiot with some basic tools install it? (yes i'm referring to myself as the idiot)

    Thanks,
    Cody

I dont think there is anu major difference between the two. I have webasto , friend of mine has espar, they work pretty much the same. So with that go with the one you can get a better deal. I didnt install mine, it came with the truck i know few people they installed their webasto, it shouldnt be too hard. And webasto does real good to keep you warm. Coldest i had it was last winter was 11F and my webasto kept me warm all night.

Thanks for the info, Do you know if you have the 2000st, the evo 390 or the evo 5500? Is the 2000ST enough to keep me warm? Thanks

Truck is 2007 i bought it in jan 2011 only maintnance was $12 sensor. $900 is a good deal deal. According to webasto website 200st uses 1 gal per 20 hours , even it it were to use 2 gal per 10 hours you still cant beat that.

Yea my math showed at max power it would use 6/10ths per 10 hour. that's like 2 bucks. Now of course im not idling all the time now, im freezing my butt off, so the cost saving wont be to extreme.....But now i can be comfortable without spending much. Off ebay they were anywhere from 1100-1700 so yea 900 is decent assuming its a genuine product that didn't fall off a truck lol.

    Thanks for your info.

I got two trucks and they each have a heater in them. One an espar, and one a webasto. They both work good and would never go without one now. Got mine from bunkheaters.com. $895. Comes with the nice digital controller. Its like the Bahamas all night long in my cab , don't matter how cold it gets. Never had a problem with batteries draining overnight either. I installed three heaters now in trucks. Not to hard if your remotely savvy with a wrench. Comes with good instructions.

Do it, blows my mind how many people still idle there trucks for heat at night. These heaters might use $1-$2 bucks a night for heat. When your truck could be $25-35 depending how long you stay.

Yeah I've got the Webasto, had a couple of them in a couple trucks. Things will roast you out of there and they don't draw a whole bunch of amps/volts.
