Insurance will be the main thing . It's almost impossible to make money running part time .
The other thing is available hours . Can you stay under 70 hours in 8 days and make money ?

    SHC Thanks this.

No need for a log book. That sounds like intrastate and less than 100 mile radius to me. Would only have to meet state transportation requirements for insurance and other things. FMCSA doesn't apply.

Send a note to www.askthelaw.org Someone there should be able to lay out the differences between intrastate and interstate. Not a lawyer firm. It is an organization that concentrates on trucking regulations.

I dont beleive so, since he runs a regular job during the week, he will have to maintain a log book for his part time gig. If he was just doing the local run he wouldnt have to, but since he is running interstate he must log all hours from both jobs, and his full time employer must also be aware of his hours.
I know that with a paper log on the weekend can be thrown out on Monday, but you still have to keep records for DOT and for auditors.
Wishing you luck and safe miles,

    Larry

I will be doing the same thing I do full time for my company, just with my own truck on the weekends.

Hope your single cause it will effect your family life, working 7 day's a week. To me, My family is more important than working 365 days a year. Thats why Im a owner op, I pick my days off for my kids when they played ANY sport or there special event. I always made time for them PERIOD. Now there growned so I take on more work.

No I have a wife that is pregnant and don't want too go back too work once the baby is born, so I need too make up her income, I am home every day so she don't mind too much, I don't know what Ins cost yet so I might get away with only one day a weekend.
