So I bought a truck to assist my other company that's already been in business for over a year, as well as to help my business partner with his other ventures that he is doing on his own. Unfortunately (for now) my business is directly related to the oilfield.

Found a unicorn of a truck after looking for months, and quickly put a deposit down on it. I flew up to Idaho a few weeks later and the day that I got there, the Saudi's and Russians started their pissing contest resulting in the first round of oil price falls...

I have wanted my own truck for a while now, really to just have as a back-up plan. Well, with the current market of oil, I may be using it sooner than I expected...

So here is the truck the day I went to pick it up:

It's a one owner 98 379 with 970K. It was obviously a tanker truck and had never been off-road, and has no rust since it’s whole life it’s been in Cali. The truck came with a folder of receipts and tons of paperwork as well. The real selling point for me was that it was converted from a 3406E with a 10 spd, to a 6NZ with a 13 spd about 160K miles ago, both reman drop in units. The previous owner took immaculate care of it and the only reason they got rid of it was for the tier 4 regs in Cali. He spent more in motor/trans and labor than I paid for the truck!

Once I got it back to Texas it went straight to the shop to get repainted. It is still there, but should be done next week.

    Rear frame cut and tapered...

    5th Wheel installed...

Cab and hood getting ready for primer...

Body and hood painted and cleared...It's dark, DARK, charcoal gray, almost black.

Still patiently waiting on some parts to arrive, but most of them are already there and re-assembly should start today.

    Adding:

New stainless grille surround w/emblem delete and inlaid grab handle
    Fiberglass fenders with 4" lip
New tool box on passenger side (original was a lift off lid)
    14" blind mount visor
    Air cleaner blanks
    Fiberglass cowl panels
Shaved antenna, horns, and GPS off roof
New cab shock and air bags
    7 clear/amber roof lights
    8" stovetop exhaust
4 4" red/clear lights in back of cab
Added 90gal fuel tank to pass side
Smooth stainless on battery/tool box for name and numbers
    Stainless half fenders on rear
    Slanted mudflap brackets with lights
    Mudflap weights and sail panels
    Machine polish wheels

I'm sure I'm forgetting stuff but that's most of it.

Ready to get her back home to change the oil and all the filters, new belts, new shocks, start cleaning up the engine and front end and grease everything, slap my numbers on her and roll.

I still have about 4-6 weeks of work left to go out here before I'll be ready to start driving while we take a "break" until the demand and price of oil comes back up.

    Anyways, thought I would share.

Your 6nz is most likely not ELD exempt. And ELD requirement’s go off engine model year not chassis model year.

Type in vin and it says that it has a 3406E which it did and is ELD exempt.

highly doubt they will be looking for serial numbers on my engine If/when I’m stopped.

Thats more an issue of the guys putting older motors in 2000 and newer trucks. That’s when they have to prove it.

That’s going to look good! And I wouldn’t worry about the engine and paper logs where you’re only running that truck. You won’t attract enough attention.
