LTL pretty is busy. ABF has a lot of retires going on too. My company loads 2-3 a night of outside carriers CRST, O/O etc. So we're 1-2 linehaul drivers short a night. I see these guys when I get to my destination at the same time so I know where they came from. But these guys don't pull our sets we live load them. ABF must have more equipment then us is why they pull their sets and makes more sense not to re break them.

Back in 2007 when I work for an owner with a fleet of 5 trucks, I was on a line haul run for Estes for a while. I would pick a loaded 53' in Charlotte, and drop and hook at a customer in South Hill, VA. Then on to the Richmond terminal. Drop and hook an empty back to South Hill. Drop and hook a loaded 53 to Charlotte. Then sometimes drop and hook a loaded 53 to a customer in Atlanta. Drop and hook a loaded 53 back to Charlotte. It was a good run and I enjoyed it. There were no appointments and sometimes the hours sucked depending on my hours I had on recap.

I don't know the details as I was not privy to that info. I would like to do it again, so I may inquire to Estes to see if they still do the outside carrier thing.

I see the ABF being pulling by Werner in Nebraska, and also HIll Brothers pulling Fed Ex Freight doubles. I know TLI was pulling Saia doubles not to long ago. Also there are Temp companies in Oklahoma hiring guys to pull LTL and doubles for these freight companies to Dallas. One was only paying 14 hr.

Transcon; that's one the Mafia bought years ago, then fired everyone and sold all the assets.
They got it cheap because it was about to go bankrupt. Some Mafia guy that engineered that deal was making a million dollars a day for the Mafia with different business deals.
