I have a 05 western star. It's got a 60 series Detroit and a 13 speed. My problem is when I split the high side of the trans the speedo freezes and drops to zero and the check engine lite comes on and derates. I have had the vss, the vss wiring to the ECM, and the ECM changed and its still does it any ideas? Thanks steve

So only when your in OD it does this?
-
What code is it throwing? If no code, it could be the voltage to the ECM. Could it be starving for fuel?
-
Most likely code ring is moving to far from the speed sensor, as it's possible the output shaft is moving around enough to cause issues. High split is direct and removing the thrust load could let output move far enough if the tranny is wore out. Put it in high split and see how how much play you have at the yoke.
-
It does it in 6 and 7 going from direct to od and it was throwing a code for the vss
-
And it doesn't seem to be starving for fuel it has plenty of power
-
Yeah my theories were only valid if it was happening from low to high, not direct to OD
-
Also the biggest thing that's stumping every one is that if I shift it like its a 10 speed and don't split the high gears it doesn't do it
-
Steve, something is moving fore and aft when the splitter shifts. Either the case or the shaft. The VSS is losing the signal from the shaft. The derate is to prevent tampering with the speed governor, of course.

So then ill have to have them check the tone ring and the output shaft then thanks guys for your help
