    Hey guys,

    I'm wondering a couple things...

First is if anyone has leased or purchased a truck through powerlease out of BC? How is/was it to live with?

Second, has anyone done this and signed on with Westfreight? If not, are there any lease ops or owner ops on here that work for west freight?

My backstory to these questions is that I applied with powerlease, got an approval and they will try to match you up to a carrier. The carrier I've been in contact with is westfreight.

I am looking at getting a truck to do flatbed work with, and was thinking of buying something used and getting on with an alberta based flat deck company like freight land or Remwan etc. This deal with westfreight could put me into a brand new peterbilt, but I'm extremely wary of having a 3800$ payment over my head. I dont know much about westfreight and am scared that after expenses truck payment etc... I won't be taking home enough to support my family. I dont know if this one of those never-never style programs.

Buy a decent used truck first and repair it as you go. When you've built sufficient equity in your business over a few years you will be in a more comfortable position for the new truck payments. Also, by that time, you will have a much better idea of expected revenue, load rates and lanes and times of year and how the seasonality works. The shiny peterbilt will still be there when you are ready.

I agree with gokiddogo, buy yourself a good used truck, it will do the same job as that shiny new Peterbuilt. I've never bought new, not that I didn't want to but was to scared of the high payments. I've been lucky over the years with my used trucks. There are lots of good used trucks out there.

do you have deck exp? if so how long? do you want to run texas steady? do you have experience running south between april and october? hint - it gets really hot.
westfreight does a lot of LTL/sidekits - ask to speak to one of their guys before you do anything like that.
suspect that powerlease is like a recruiting arm for a lot of these companies who do the credit checks for them of unsuspecting drivers. buyer beware.
just remember, buying a used truck for that kind of miles is a "risky" proposition - break down and you can lose a week downtime just like nothing especially if you are in ####-###k north dakota or worse.

I've known a few westfreight people over the years. Most are happy with it. Lots of ltl, as with most of the companies skip the main routes and you'll make more. And skip the peterbilt. $40000 for that red circle isn't worth it. I looked at them, kenwortK, Western star, Mack and ended up with a new International from southlanS in Lethbridge. $160 vs $200 and the internihas the stronger power train/driveline
