I am looking to start a company focused on providing drivers with the quality and lifestyles they need. With that being said I would love to get some input from experienced drivers on what changes could be made or what things are necessary.

Would anyone please give me their opinions? What makes you stay with a company, what compensation do you need? How often do you need to be home? Would you prefer OTR or regional?

Feel free to ad all ideas and input, I want to make this a great place for drivers.

I have done all of the necessary secondary research. You can never undervalue the importance of primary research and the critical information that lies in the gaps.

    Looking for constructive responses. Thanks!

Read through the several other threads for more detail but

    1) pay a competitive wage

    2) run solid equipment

    3) deal with drivet issues in a constructive, timely manner.

    4) be honest and forthright.

    5) follow through

Competitive pay, regular miles, excellent benefits package. Many drivers will take somewhat lower pay for good medical benefits, especially if the employer pays part of the dependent cost. The cost of buying your own medical insurance is very expensive compared to obtaining it through an employer who can get it at a discounted rate.

You also have to treat them like humans and know their names instead of their driver number.

I don’t like incompetent dispatching and operations staff. I don’t like needlessly sitting and/or getting a short run over a weekend for no good reason. Makes me look for another company.

Impossible to satisfy everyone, you can try all you want but you'll still have the idiots.

Pay a decent wage, if a driver went above and beyond be sure to thank him for it, be true to your word. Run decent equipment and don't micromanage. Don't hire buffoons and this industry wouldn't need the hand holding the megas like to do

Plenty of steering wheel holders out there, finding a good driver will be your issue. Good luck.
