I want you to give me a definition of speeding. If someone walked up to you and asked, "What is speeding" What would your answer be? Why do you think companies view it as being a bad thing which can eventually cost you your job and lastly, why are there so many different speed zones in areas that has no change in surroundings? There are no fire stations, schools or nuns crossing the interstate and you aren't in any city or rural area that warrants speed changing. Don’t be shy, its only a question. Do you know the answer? Then spill the beans, don’t worry I’ll clean it up.

Here's my answer to the definition of speeding. Speeding to me is when a vehicle is going faster than the majority of the vehicles around him/her which may cause injury to the speeding vehicle or commuters around them. If there were no vehicles around a driver and he posses no threat to anyone than how is that speeding. In the State of Nebraska the speed posted is 75 mph, 70 mph on most interstates in Texas, 70 mph in Utah, Missouri, Oklahoma and a lot of other States as well. But their roads are the same structure of roads whose State speed restriction are definitely enforced. There are no church people coming from morning service, no children crossing the highways or anything that could be different then the other States who has higher speeds. Lets call it what it is, State revenue, local and State municipalities. I mean if you want to stop drunk driving then put a officer outside of the bars, If you want to stop speeding then put State Troopers along the highways or at least their out of service vehicles. But when you have our law officials hiding in the woods, on off-ramps, on bridges, hundreds of feet in the air… you don’t have speed control but entrapment in stead. So why are our companies looking at speed in one State as reckless driving and the same speed in others not reckless driving. I don’t know. I guess I just don’t get it. Drivers are seen as an endanger to the industry we served for years and we are being put out of business because we were trying to get enough power to climb a hill and getting caught by a system that don’t punish themselves. How many fellow police officers do you see defending themselves for speed violations in court? None! How many Judges outside their jurisdiction do you see in courtrooms defending themselves for speed violations? Right again, None. I can go on all day with the “how many” but I have to go back to driving eventually. The point is who polices the police, judges and other officials who are obviously above the law. What has happen to our country and where are the True Blooded Americans that still believe in what our fathers before us fought for to get this country to where it is. I bet if we were able to see beyond this life they would be turning in their graves. If someone did a survey on when do 90% of accidents happen, I’m willing to bet you its not at night with little traffic but during the day with a lot more traffic. How many times have you seen cops setting in the medians during rush hour traffic ticketing aggressive driver for speeding? In the same respect I'm willing to bet you that most speeding tickets are give when there no rush hour traffic then when there is rush hour traffic. Wow, now that’s some heavy stuff. Do you agree or am I just blasting off.

We are a society of laws, without those laws we have anarchy. i don't agree with all of the laws on the books but I try to abide by them. If you don't like to get speeding tickets slow down if your freight is so hot you "can't" slow down you should have left earlier of you should have rescheduled it. I used to think I had to drive as fast as I wanted. After paying lots of money in fines and attorney fee's I decided to slow down. Guess what? I stopped getting tickets. I haven't had one over 10 years.

I also personally know cops that have gotten speeding tickets. The simple truth is that the reason that you don't see them in court is because they just pay them instead of fighting them.

I know for a fact that is a very, very rare case "I also personally know cops that have gotten speeding tickets" and if you are implying that it happens more so than not then you sir are sadly mistaken. My son's best friend's father is a police officer and has taken to my son as one of his own (forwhich I haven't a problem with) and to help keep him out of trouble he gave my son a bill fold that has an image of a badge which is not illegal. He told my son that if he ever got pull over to make sure his
license is in it and if they ask him where he got it just give them his name. This I'm willing to bet is the case with all officers of the system such as lawyers, prosecutors, judges and yes even fellow off duty officers. So while I do appreciate your comment it has no essence when compared to real life instances. The fact is that speeding tickets for the most part are for common citizen and not law appointed officials believe it or not. So if you want to keep from getting tickets become an officer of the courts bottom-line.

Max...I gave you some credit for common sense on the highway merge and multiple trucks thread question you posted...but this one shows your true colors...with so many newbies on this forum, I don't think it wise to be publishing your thoughts on the different "conspiracies against truckers" especially when in regards to speed!

The definition of speeding is "going faster than the posted speed limit", no matter the topography, the road condition, or the environment around the posted speed for the area. What you are saying is "go with the flow of traffic"...just because some other fool is doing 80 in a 65/70 zone does not make it right or change the fact that the posted speed is what it is. so by having everyone take your view, why bother having speed limits at all...Montana tried that a couple years back and wound up finding that there is no "common sense" when a person gets behind the wheel...accidents and fatalities rose in that short duration when the limit was removed...it just put an added danger into the mix with no commonality for vehicles and their speeds...just a bad mix.

As for your story on the officer giving your son a wallet badge looking billfold...ptoooie!...that is called impersonating an officer of the law...not only a felony but a Federal law against the practice...nice try...hope you enjoy visiting your son in the jail house..and I am sure he will appreciate the Felony on his record when he seeks employment.

And Police do get tickets, and get arrested for DUI...as do judges...most modern day LEO's abide by the law when off duty...the ticket and the fine are the least of their worries...what comes with the ticket is unpaid time off on top of the fine...plus endangering their career....you are living in the past Max...get with the current day rules regulations and speed zones.

Your comments have "no essence when compared to real life instances" sir!

Speeding is simply driving too fast for the road conditions and to me thats regardless of the posted speed limit.

Our motorway have limits of 70 mph for cars, I wouldn't drive at 70 mph in thick fog, heavy rain or snow. Our police will "allow" up to 80 mph without ticketing but anything over 85 mph is asking for trouble 100 mph and above is more than likely an instant ban and a fine.

Factors to consider. Your location, levels of traffic and the weather.

Trucks need to also factor in the load being carried in terms of weight, size and distribution of load and its stability.

While you are issuing out credit... brother, I guess we should credit the law enforcers who hide between trees, in the air where they are not seen, on the entrance ramps shooting you in the back with their laser guns because this is entrapment and if you want to discourage speeding put officer in plain site like they do in Ohio, I don't care what the cost is they are being paid by our tax dollars so they need to do their dam job and not encourage drivers to speed by hiding like cowards. They have speed cameras in California and in construction zones in some States like Illinois to, to discourage this type of behavior so don't tell me about the new comers for I am vey aware of them and I'm letting them know that it is not the posted speed limit on a sign that dictations reckless drivers its the time of day, its going faster then required to get from point A to point B. If you really want to help new comers Mr. Credit issuer teach them time management skills that will show them at what speed they need to go in order to meet their objectives. I've been teaching this for over 20 plus years. The point is Mr. Judge, juror and prosecutor is we need to teach them how to drive and what they need to do to get to where they are destine to go without speeding... Its like telling a person don't drink and drive and soon afterward he leaves bar with keys in hand and drives off only to later be involved in a car crash that kill innocent people. The point again like speeding is, if a patrol car is outside of facilities where people are drinking and the officer/s do not allow anyone to drive cars unless a non-drinker drives them home, will prevent accidents. I'm sure this don't make one bit of since to you because like a host of others who may agree with you, you are dumb down to believing that their way of thinking is their to save you from yourself by catching you because you never saw them. Bottom line is if you're an interstate that has a lot of traffic moving very fast are you going to cross it or are you going to let it slow down first? The same stands true if you are going a little faster then what is posted on their little black and white signs and when they see a police officer in plain site do you think they will continue to speed knowing the officer is looking right at them or will they slow down? If they had wide angle camera lens that capture speeders and it posted that they are being observered do you think they will continue to speed after getting expensive tickets in the mail? If they did all of the things to prevent speeding, imagine the amount of revenue they will loose. Just think about that... BROTHER.
