Have a quick question, whats the procedure nowadays if you have a CDL and your DOT medial card expires? Do you get a certain amount of time to renew it, do they suspend you CDL if you dont renew it by the expire date?

Reason i ask is because im stuck out of the country (not because of covid19) and i just realized my DOT medical card expires next week, but i wont be back in the country until next month.

Ignoring all the covid stuff currently...

When your medical card expires it really comes down to the state you got your cdl issued in and their guidelines. You'll have to look on your states department of motor vehicles website.

Some states will automatically downgrade your CDL to a standard license and just require submitting the new medical card to get it reactivated, possibly with a small fee, other states might make you go through the entire licensing process all over again.

Well I think this is your lucky day!
As far as I know they extended medical cards and most other licenses for at least 90 days passed their expiration date due to the Covid virus shut down.

FMCSA has granted an extension on physicals. You have until June 30,2020.

It reverts to a class C when your med card expires ( it's still valid for class C until the license expires) and then you have a few months to submit a med card to get it bumped back up. It varies by state.

You should be good on both as they did the extension knowing most all DMVs were closed for the foreseeable future and a lot of doctors weren't doing new physicals as that was considered non essential.

    Bean Jr. Thanks this.

Seriously? You're blaming Trump for this? States or shippers/receivers have no resposibility in your mind? The Governors of each State have the resposibility of shutting down everything, and the shippers/receivers have been forced into compliance with these Gov. driven rules. Get real...pay attention and quit drinking the Kool Aid!
