I have 10k on the filter that's on the right... Generally change oil every 15k... At what point to I determine I should change that filter out between oil changes? I took it off today so I could access a leaking air line and figure I would ask... Is my fuel mileage being affected by such a dirty filter? 20170916_121857.jpg

I say just change the filter with the oil. In this situation though, since it's already off, change it.

Keep in mind that I am just a company driver though. I don't have to worry about that kind of stuff.

Doubtful if your fuel mileage is being effected enough to warrant changing.

    stay on schedule

I change it every 50k miles or when fuel level reaches to top edge of label. this is 10 micron filter.

Dude! That filter is horrendous! Looks like you either have an algae infection or an asphaltene issue. I would start with a biocide, shock the fuel and continue to use until tanks and lines are clean. You may have to change fuel filters, both of them, several times between oil changes. I can only imagine what your other fuel filter looks like if you were to cut it open. You need to get on this ASAP. NAPA or any truck stop will sell the biocide. And it is not a one time deal, you may have to spend a moth or two on this issue to clear it up.

))))))))))))) don't scare him. there is no algae infection or an asphaltene issue.. it's a soot , the engine has little worn injector O-rings. I guess he has 14L series 60 or pre-2007 isx. if it's a 14 L series 60 google for black fuel issue.

If that is soot in his fuel as you stated, he has larger issues than an algae or asphaltene infection.

It's really very simple. You change that filter when the fuel level gets to that black stripe on the top end of filter.

That's why you run a davco. Your not gaining anything by changing it earlier.
