Why can't you do OTR? Required by many tanker companies, particularly w/HM Tanker outfits. Gotta pay your dues in this racket!
farmerjohn64, okiedokie, bryan21384 and 5 others Thank this. -
Where is your location?
Maybe we can give suggestions on something local.Puppage Thanks this. -
I got mine at Rip Griffins, was 2 years for a buck deal!
Just kidding, my father taught me to drive. I learned on an old Mack logging truck. Then just stayed close and worked my way into OTR.farmerjohn64 and akfisher Thank this. -
I know of some guys that worked for beer and beverage delivery companies to get experience.
I did OTR for my experience though. -
Dirt hauling local. 1 1/2 years.
Fuel local from then till I took a break.
Look at dirt hauling.okiedokie Thanks this. -
I took a job in a warehouse for a beer distributor. The distributor let me practice with their trucks on the lot. I got my license and was the backup driver. A driver quit and I got his route. A word of warning to you. Beer doesn't pay as well as the sodas do. The sodas don't pay as well as food service. Food service can be a pain. How so?
With the beer, I would leave the house at 0400 and hit the big grocery chains, then the convenience stores and finally the bars. You run all day. With food service, no restaurant wants to accept any food deliveries anywhere around lunch. Hospitals will get the whole trailer. A nuke plant will get the whole trailer, but security will want to look inside all the boxes of food. It may take AAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL day. Depending on the size of the load, it may take all night too.farmerjohn64, bryan21384, NightWind and 3 others Thank this. -
A few weeks at Schneider getting my license, then to the local job I have now.
NightWind Thanks this. -
I learned years ago working for my ex gf dad. I worked for him in his shop greasing trucks and changing oil. He would let me drive and shift gears. Once I turned 21 I started with Werner and it started legally from there.
