I wouldn't personally recommend any of them, but JB would be at the top of your short list because it seems the DCS guys do ok. How old are you, do you have any experience? If you're young and fit, check out foodservice outfits like US Foods, Reinhart, and Sysco. They offer training for non CDL holders and it's not unheard of for newbies to bang 60k/year or more. Get some experience there and head to LTL or a union grocery outfit.

However, if you're older and crave running the road, check out Trans Am, there's a guy doing a thread about them on this site. They'd be local to you and would provide a stepping stone for a better opportunity.

Your options in this industry are fairly limitless, personal preference plays a lot in to an individual's choice. Read the threads here, there's a ton of info to be had.

 

Yes, you would. If you have a decent record, there is no reason you couldn't get on with a decent smaller company that runs legal.

The megas have poor safety records, which means you will spend more time dealing with inspections. It means you better be on top of your game, unless you want the tickets that come with those inspections. It means you will be constantly dealing with getting dropped trailers fixed because the last guy didn't care to bother.

The megas may have some decent dedicated positions, especially JBH, but megas are infamous for bait and switch. They promise you this great gig, 45 cents a mile, 3200 miles a week, all drop and hook, great drop and hook pay, etc, you get through orientation and find out that "unfortunately all of those positions are now filled, we are putting you in the OTR fleet." Welcome to 32 cpm, 2200 miles a week, and 200-300 mile runs 2000 miles away from home for weeks at a time.

Just don't do it.

Which Mega? None... That was easy.

Driver with Experience? Sure to get on with a quality smaller legal company. Check into companies below the Mega Group.

 

I've been at JB hunt for just over 3 months, and have no complaints, except the normal, usual, trucking in General stuff.
Every terminal has signs up everywhere thanking the drivers, and I do get calls every few weeks, thanking me for my work.
Its a small gesture, but knowing someone realizes, the crap I endure, is rewarding.
The terminals are newer, with clean showers..not like some of the jail showers, at some companies.
